Summary: Trudy wakes up with jazz music in her ears.
Warnings or Spoilers: The first of 15 stories where Trudy falls asleep at the mall, and dreams that she's gone back into the 1920s.
When Trudy woke up, she didn’t know where she was. She remembered sleeping somewhere, but she knew it wasn’t here. She picked herself up off of the ground slowly and decided to look at her surroundings. But before she could go anywhere, the sound of vibrant horns being played rang through her ears.
Cautious but curious, Trudy walked over to where the noise was. Shocked at the sight of seeing adults, she looked around her drastically, waiting for something bad to happen. When it didn’t, she stood closer to the men who were playing the music. It swirled around her body and she couldn’t resist swaying along with it.
The music took her away. It took her away to a place where her parents were, and where she and Brady were safe, peaceful, and happy. She closed her eyes and let the music flow through her.
When it was over, she opened her eyes and saw all of the bystanders walk away. She approached one of the musicians and asked, “Excuse me, but what kind of music is that?”
He looked at her up and down before answering, “It’s a new form of music called jazz.”
“Thanks,” she said, and quickly walked away, noticing how the rest of the women were dressed. Thinking without delay, Trudy decided it would be better if she went to get an outfit that matched what the rest of the women were wearing.
Though she had moved on, the jazz melody she heard earlier would be stuck in her head forever.
