Interesting facts (sort of) on nuclear weapons:
-to actually achieve even a 50% kill rate in a nuclear war is said to be nearly impossible. The only plausible variable is some kind of super virus that can wipe out populations like a modern Bubonic Plague. Only deadlier. (And that’s why sci-fi novels should not be taken as facts. :P)
-Even if a nuclear war happened-a full-out one with all of the nations participating (also extremely unlikely)-unless there is a very, very high scale of human casualties, civilization will still rebuild itself. I’ve read a book on this, which compared a post-nuclear war situation to 9/11. At that time, people in America united behind one cause. People were shocked, yes, and the stock markets dipped sharply. But people still went back to work as usual a week later, however shocking the incident was.
-The impact of a nuclear weapon will not last forever. Right now in Hiroshima, Japan, actually has cancer rate lower than the rest of the world. In the nuclear test sites of Los Angeles, California, they even take tours. O.o
-Nuclear winter will happen in even a small scale of nuclear warfare. Earth’s global climate will cool down from the amount of soot rising into the atmosphere (coming from burning cities) that blocks out the sun. The effect on the environment is said to be disastrous, as there would be ozone depletion, low precipitation rates, and other, well, bad things. Luckily, this is still in theory.
