I just recently bought the album Blueberry Boat by the Fiery Furnaces. This thing is fucking AWESOME. Mixing restless experimentation, epic arrangements, wild screaming guitar solos, lush piano, storybook lyrics, and male/female vocal tradeoffs (among about 8,003 other left-field ideas) may seem to be teetering on the brink of disaster on paper -- however, when one actually sits down and gives this album a good extended listen, it's just a frickin' ride. I haven't even finished my first listen of this 70+-minute behemoth, so I can't even begin to get into all of the intricacies of this extremely complicated statement -- so all I can tell at this point is that it's epic sweep and melodic power is blowing my freaking mind. Sometimes the lyrics get a bit ridiculous (the "my dog was lost but now he's found" is especially bizarre) but...man...I can't stop raving about this thing. It just rocks. I've never heard an album this unabashedly ambitious. Dude.
