the drugs don't work

Livejournal, I love you! I spent a weekend with an elegant French friend-of-friend getting sunburned, then allergic, then stupid. It's been very French around the blue apartment: crusty bread for breakfast, bottle of wine at lunch. Personality, as expressed through the mortar mannerisms of language (the way I say yeah yeah yeah to encourage someone speaking to continue, or the things I call awesome; the word C and Marion say to each other halfway between oui and ouais, or the untranslatable thought-punctuator eh bien), must be different in different languages; I wonder who C is as she speaks French to a decades-old friend.

The French expression for "quit exaggerating" is "don't through your grandmother in the thornbush"! I've shaved off my beard and I look, I think, older without it-- smile lines and "soulful" eyes. Will get oriented for teaching at King County Jail as soon as I pass my background check and it's revealed that I'm no crook.

And: I'm afraid my old warhorse Claritin is starting to blur my brain and make me feel fuzzy-headed, the way every other allergy medicine I've quit (especially, back in middle school, the dreaded Benadryl) did. So, for Ask Internet lifetime +5 bonus: anybody have an allergy medicine they love? One that does the trick without packing their soul full of cotton?
