It's quiet here....too quiet....

So Frances is back in the States and life here in Australia is back to the way it was. The last few days of her visit went pretty much as planned. Thursday I had a lot of class and lab so she amused herself downtown in the shops, aquarium and museaum while I drew algae =/. Thursday night I recieved mixed information, some people insisted there was no full moon while others insisted there was a full moon celebration going on that night and so I had guessed that there was no full moon, when in fact there was, so we missed out on the full moon celebration at the strand (oops, but I was tired, cranky and confused after lab so not having to rush to a bus and rush back home in a span of two hours was okay). My second failure of the night came when I had talked to a buddy of mine in the dive club and he said he was having a house party that night and I should come. Since the last house party was nuts, I figured this one would be fun too and found a few friends who were interested in going. After making an embarassingly rookie mistake at a liquor store we went over to the party...which was dead... Waited around for about an hour and a half, hoping it would pick up, but to no avail. I figured we had been poilite enough, so we called a cab and went back to Uni to go to The Club. Thursday ended up being a long, long day but at least The Club went well. We all had a good time dancing and singing (the music was that of our sophomore year in HS, I swear, it was really funny)and then passed out exhausted after midnight.

Friday I took Frances to Billabong. The second time around was pretty much the same as the first time around, minus 160+ pictures. The crew brought out a few animals to handle that I hadn't had the chance to encounter last time including: a baby saltwater croc about 5 inches long (bastard stared squirming as soon as I touched it, stupid crocs know I'm weak), a black cockatoo, some funky looking lizards, and three BABY koalas. The baby koalas were the best. Didn't get to see those last time; they're so much fatter, soft, and flat-faced when they're young =). Another great part of the day was feeding the animals. Learned my lesson from last time and bought a feed bag which I used to feed ducks, geese, wallabies, and mini-wallabies (about the size of a cat), and kangaroos. Feeding a mother kangaroo with a big joey in her pouch was another great highlight of the day. After Billabong, because it was Good Friday the entire country shut down for the day...so we really had nothing to do except watch movies and talk until Frances went home...

Since then, the days have been quiet. Australians like to declare Easter weekend a 4-day holiday weekend, which means that NOTHING is open or working. Myself and other Americans find this frustrating... No busses, no shops, no library, no...nothing. And because 95% of the school has gone somewhere for Break, it is very, very eerie around here. No cars, no people, it's so silent and lazy. We all have cabin fever, lol. But oh yeah, only having 20 people in the whole building didn't stop the fire alarms from going off last night. The reason? "Oh, they just do that sometimes" grrrrrr. Anyway, sometimes I forget that today is Easter, so, Happy Easter to everyone. I guess that's really all for now. Tomorrow will be another day of nothingness because everything is closed and stopped, so all I have to do is stacks of reading and packing for my trip. Tuesday I leave for a couple days to go camping in the rainforest and I really hope it's fun. First time seeing the rainforest since I've been here, and I'm getting 4 credits for it too =). Hope everyone is doing well. Cheers.
