It didn't seem normal to Junpei that he would be this drowsy and exhausted as he sat inside the SUV, with Clover positively trying to murder everyone with her horrendous driving. That feeling washed over him gradually and he soon found himself leaning against the window, his consciousness slowly but surely leaving him despite all of his attempts to stay awake.
The last sight Junpei saw before he fell into a deep sleep was the visage of the young Akane Kurashiki, smiling at him once again, as if nothing had happened between them. As if the last few hours had been nothing but a bad dream. As if he was a child all over again, waiting in the night alongside Akane for the one who killed the rabbits to show up.
"I love you..."
Junpei found it impossible to discern who was saying those words. Was he the one who had confessed his feelings for Akane unconsciously, almost as if he was compelled by an outside force to do so, or was Akane the one who...
With a loud slam, he found himself on the ground once again, greeted by a very familiar sight.
It was the small room which had the number [5] emblazoned on the door in red paint. It was the very first room Junpei had been in when he was playing the Nonary Game a few hours ago.
This meant only one thing. That he was back inside Building Q, or that he was on the Gigantic for real. That he was once again playing the sadistic game of nightmares, the Nonary Game.
Everything was exactly the same inside the room. The stove that looked more antique than functional. The 3-level bunk bed that had mattresses that were so thin that they were little more than blankets. Even the card reader and the mirror that had been shattered by the rushing water hours ago. Everything was here.
Junpei resisted the urge to cry as he tried to force the door open, despite knowing deep down that the door was, as it had been in the Nonary Game, locked. True enough, he was trapped once again, for the umpteenth time in the day.
Tears of frustration welled up inside Junpei's eyes as he frantically looked for a way out of the room. It was supposed to be over. It was over! Why was God so cruel as to re-enact the ordeal that he had been through?
That was when Junpei noticed the presence of another in the room. It sounded like a lady, and it was coming from the cupboard where the red box containing the keycards were previously. He opened the cupboard, and true enough, he found someone.
She was completely unconscious. Junpei shook her violently so as to wake her from her slumber. Two minds were far better than one, in any case, and he would make use of any help that could allow him to escape this horrid re-enactment of the Nonary Game.
There were two things that were different, however. Firstly, he no longer had the bracelets containing a number on his hand. That was understandable, as the one who put the bracelet on was Zero, and he had no reason to do so now since his mission was over. Secondly, there was the presence... of this lady. The first time he completed the puzzle, he was alone in the room, and he had nearly drowned in this place.
Well, if he could finish the puzzle once, he could clearly do so once again.
