[There was nothing worse than being useless in an emergency situation. Conan found himself sympathising for all the stress he'd put Ran through in a whole new way. There were more people missing than he could verify, and people worried about their friends had no time to answer his questions. Conan couldn't blame them. He was short even in his first

She did what she could administering first aid to whoever she could, but finally she simply couldn't take it anymore. Nursing was her mother's job, and Stephanie just wasn't up to snuff. She was too furious with herself, too rough with the patients, and so far beyond words that she was probably causing more harm than good.
She needed a break, but she could bring herself to do anything but drink water.
Stupid, stupid girl. Robin wannabe. Probationary. What sort of sick joke was this place? How dare it take her future and wave it in front of her while taking her present and ripping it from her own hands. ]

Still -- unable to do much at all against the trees outside, it was only fair that he try his best at the battle that came his way. Carefully shutting the door behind him, Conan spoke up.]
Are you all right?
((Steph in or out of uniform?))

Yeah, I'm fine, it's just... a lot of blood. A lot of people. I'm glad I ate the stupid fruit.

[Conan grimaced sympathetically. He felt like the coppery aftertaste had never quite gone -- or maybe that was his mind playing tricks, surrounded as he was by so much evidence of blood loss.]
Ah ... didn't enjoy it at the time but -- ah, at least no one had to rescue us. [Some consolation.]

[Patients weren't supposed to wander the halls without doctor's clearing them -- and being that Luffy had been fast asleep the past three days, going so suddenly to movement couldn't be a good idea. Abandoning his trolley, Conan jogged up to him.]
Mr Luffy! When did you wake up?

Anything to eat? Ah, if you go back to bed I'll see if I can find a tray of something to bring you.

Distracted as she was, she almost ran over the trolley coming her way -- and the little kid pushing it. A boy smaller than the trolley itself with a familiar face. Taken aback a bit, she blinks, but then smiles, if somewhat weakly.]
Ah -- sorry, little guy. You helping out?

That's the plan!

[Promptly, she steps aside, but after a short pause, she eyes him again.]
Do you need help with that?

He didn't remember much beyond escaping from the grove with his Sensei and Alanna, and he dreaded the scolding he would no doubt receive from the dojo residents for his recklessness.
But mostly he'll just be very quiet and behaved, always with a gentle smile for anyone who comes by. ]

So he blinks the tears back and grins instead, doing his absolute best to go back to being the sensei he was before he woke up drowning. He may not be able to hold it for long, but he's got to start trying somewhere.]
Heh heh~ Yo! Don't mind me, just-- geh-- man this thing is a pain! [Grunt and shove and roll four inches, grunt and shove and roll four inches, atta boy, here he comes, pay no attention to his wheezing, really.]

When he comes to again, later that afternoon, for a moment he almost thinks it was all just a horrible nightmare. Then he tries to move and finds he cannot, rediscovers how his bloodsoaked clothes have been stripped from him and replaced with mummy-esque layers of bandaging, and has to remember that it was all real. He was stupid, he let cowardice get the better of him, and someone he wanted only to protect had to pay a price for it.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, his vision blurs and doubles as Naoshi softly starts to weep.]

Wait -- what was that? Someone crying?
Quietly, Conan made his way to the nearest ward door, listening intently. There it was again, instantly recognisable now. Who was in that room? He frowned, running through the patients in his mind. One of the later arrivals, very injured ... Taking a deep breath, Conan slips inside the ward door.]
Hello?

Instead, he tries to blink his eyes clear, sniffling, and turns his head to look towards the door with the very faintest of blushes coloring his pale, drained cheeks. And-- oh heavens, what is this, every person he meets on this island is half the age of the last one.] Nn?
