[Action - Hospital Post! Let's say ... 20 -23rd?]

Apr 22, 2011 16:24

[There was nothing worse than being useless in an emergency situation. Conan found himself sympathising for all the stress he'd put Ran through in a whole new way. There were more people missing than he could verify, and people worried about their friends had no time to answer his questions. Conan couldn't blame them. He was short even in his first ( Read more... )

22nd - Break room? selfmadehero April 22 2011, 14:24:57 UTC
[ Stephanie was practically shaking. Her housemate had gone missing, friends of friends been captured, and where had she been through all of it? Exercising. Preparing herself for whatever was coming so that she could prove herself to Batman, claim her title as Robin more permanently, and finding instead that she was utterly useless.

She did what she could administering first aid to whoever she could, but finally she simply couldn't take it anymore. Nursing was her mother's job, and Stephanie just wasn't up to snuff. She was too furious with herself, too rough with the patients, and so far beyond words that she was probably causing more harm than good.

She needed a break, but she could bring herself to do anything but drink water.

Stupid, stupid girl. Robin wannabe. Probationary. What sort of sick joke was this place? How dare it take her future and wave it in front of her while taking her present and ripping it from her own hands. ]

[The last thing Conan expected to see when he opened the break room was someone else occupying it -- much less someone in distress. He hesitated in the doorway a second, very tempted to turn and flee -- emotional situations were very much not his thing.

Still -- unable to do much at all against the trees outside, it was only fair that he try his best at the battle that came his way. Carefully shutting the door behind him, Conan spoke up.]

Are you all right?

((Steph in or out of uniform?))

[ She froze when she heard the door shut, and quickly thought of a cover before turning around, forcing a nervous smile and messing with her hair a little to complete the picture. ]

Yeah, I'm fine, it's just... a lot of blood. A lot of people. I'm glad I ate the stupid fruit.

A lot of friends?

[Conan grimaced sympathetically. He felt like the coppery aftertaste had never quite gone -- or maybe that was his mind playing tricks, surrounded as he was by so much evidence of blood loss.]

Ah ... didn't enjoy it at the time but -- ah, at least no one had to rescue us. [Some consolation.]

Ah!

[Patients weren't supposed to wander the halls without doctor's clearing them -- and being that Luffy had been fast asleep the past three days, going so suddenly to movement couldn't be a good idea. Abandoning his trolley, Conan jogged up to him.]

Mr Luffy! When did you wake up?

[What was that -- his stomach? Geez, is this guy turbo powered?]

Anything to eat? Ah, if you go back to bed I'll see if I can find a tray of something to bring you.

[Such a busy time at the hospital. Rin walked through the halls, watching the goings-on, a bit unsure about where she should go. She herself was still injured, but others were worse off, and she wanted to keep an eye on things, but she feared she might just be in the way. Everyone had all their hands full, so she didn't feel much encouraged to ask whether she could help, either.

Distracted as she was, she almost ran over the trolley coming her way -- and the little kid pushing it. A boy smaller than the trolley itself with a familiar face. Taken aback a bit, she blinks, but then smiles, if somewhat weakly.]

Ah -- sorry, little guy. You helping out?

[Whoops -- person incoming! Conan manages to bring the trolley to a stop without crushing Rin's toes or any other miscellaneous body parts. Peering around the trolley, Conan smiles in recognition as he catches sight of Rin, pleased to see that she is both upright and mobile -- can't be too badly off then.]

That's the plan!

Won't be keeping you, then.

[Promptly, she steps aside, but after a short pause, she eyes him again.]

Do you need help with that?

[Conan's smile is grateful -- it's okay once the trolley is moving, but getting it started again is always hard.] Yes please! I've finished this round, so I'm just taking it back to the stairs now.

[ He was prescribed half a week's stay, beginning today, for that large gash in his arm and the ensuing blood loss.

He didn't remember much beyond escaping from the grove with his Sensei and Alanna, and he dreaded the scolding he would no doubt receive from the dojo residents for his recklessness.

But mostly he'll just be very quiet and behaved, always with a gentle smile for anyone who comes by. ]

[Goddammit Kanakubo why is your room so far from the ICU. You hear that squeaking? Yeah, even though it’s only been lady-knight’s magic and a day of sleep and a couple blood transfusions later, your sensei rolled his stupid self out of bed and into an old wheelchair nearby. Don’t ask exactly how he managed that, because it wasn’t pretty and involved a lot of ouch!-ing and pauses to catch his breath and then he had to figure out how to drag his IV stand along with him and patient gowns are the devil's work to get on and--

Well, anyway, here he comes, rolling around and through your door about four inches per shove at his wheels, damn this is harder than it looks BUT HE IS TOTALLY DOING THIS JUST GIVE HIM A FIVE TEN HE CAN DO THIS OKAY.]

[ He would get up and look for his Sensei, but the staff assured him of the man's safety, and anyway--don't be stupid, stay in bed, doctor's orders and-- ] Sensei?

[Oh, stars, to finally see Kanakubo again after-- yesterday-- Naoshi feels ready to go to tears all over again. It doesn't matter that the boy's lacerated arm is nothing compared to Naoshi's impression of The Mummy, the point is he shouldn't have gotten hurt at all and it's all Naoshi's fault and-- and he's bound and determined that even if he's still going to be afraid of this island and all its horrors, he will not let that fear put anyone in harm's way again. He wants to protect people, not be the one protected.

So he blinks the tears back and grins instead, doing his absolute best to go back to being the sensei he was before he woke up drowning. He may not be able to hold it for long, but he's got to start trying somewhere.]

Heh heh~ Yo! Don't mind me, just-- geh-- man this thing is a pain! [Grunt and shove and roll four inches, grunt and shove and roll four inches, atta boy, here he comes, pay no attention to his wheezing, really.]

[Naoshi was dropped off at the hospital earlier today after a daringly reckless rescue by his bullheaded student and a lionhearted lady-knight. Although Naoshi was the one captured by the jinmenju trees and held in their clutches overnight, it was not until he was assured of Kanakubo’s safety and tending that the little man at last permitted himself to pass out in the hospital bed in which he had been placed.

When he comes to again, later that afternoon, for a moment he almost thinks it was all just a horrible nightmare. Then he tries to move and finds he cannot, rediscovers how his bloodsoaked clothes have been stripped from him and replaced with mummy-esque layers of bandaging, and has to remember that it was all real. He was stupid, he let cowardice get the better of him, and someone he wanted only to protect had to pay a price for it.

Staring blankly at the ceiling, his vision blurs and doubles as Naoshi softly starts to weep.]

[Who the hell designed these stupid trolleys anyway? Did it never occur to them that someday a kid might need to use them? Geez -- when I get home -- When he got home, there would be fully staffed hospitals and no need for Conan to take on nurse-duty all by himself. Until then ... Conan sighed, letting the trolley come to a rest and leaning against the nearest wall, shutting his eyes a moment. All that pushing had to be good for his muscle development, but he was getting tired ...

Wait -- what was that? Someone crying?

Quietly, Conan made his way to the nearest ward door, listening intently. There it was again, instantly recognisable now. Who was in that room? He frowned, running through the patients in his mind. One of the later arrivals, very injured ... Taking a deep breath, Conan slips inside the ward door.]

Hello?

Geh-! [Naoshi jumps -- or, well, twitches, at least -- startled at being addressed when he was so wrapped up in his own thoughts that he didn't hear anyone coming. He tries to choke the tears back and pick his hand up off the bed to wipe his face, but it shakes so badly that he gives up and lets it flop back down beside him.

Instead, he tries to blink his eyes clear, sniffling, and turns his head to look towards the door with the very faintest of blushes coloring his pale, drained cheeks. And-- oh heavens, what is this, every person he meets on this island is half the age of the last one.] Nn?

[Conan politely pretends not to notice the other's ineffecutal attempts to hide his distress.] Ah, you are awake.

I thought I heard noise so I came to see if you needed anything -- new bandages, water, pain killers ...
