The moment Billy walks into the Hub, he feels under dressed (despite his attempt at dressing up by throwing on a black dress jacket over his go to red button up shirt and black pants). The fact that the Hub has carpeting makes it feel more into the party spirit than he does, and wonders if he should just give up planning Tony's birthday all together.

Or maybe just convince Kurt to help him out.

The color theme makes him feel right at home, and while he won't go anywhere near the karaoke machine that Kurt is currently mastering, there's food and good company to enjoy.

And the hope that he won't get a water balloon in the face before he completely and utter fails at his assassination target.

Acutely aware of every single person who steps into the Hub, Kurt's expression lights up when he sees Billy enter. The problem with a joint birthday party is, of course, that his and Santana's circles don't wholly align or overlap, leaving more than a few people who arrive as complete strangers to Kurt. It's been easier, once Kurt quickly resigns himself to the fact that he just can't be the most attentive of hosts to every person who walks in, but to say that seeing Billy isn't a relief would certainly be a lie.

Relief that quickly turns into amusement upon seeing the outfit that Billy wears, one that has him practically blending into the Hub, and Kurt finds himself practically beaming as he rushes on over before he loses sight of the other boy altogether.

"Seeing your choice of outfit, I think I'm just going to have to go with 'great minds think alike,'" he annouces with a grin.

"Really?" Pleased to see that Kurt approves -- he's barely been around for that long but he's already made outfits that had no business looking good work -- Billy beams back at him, holding his arms out briefly. "Red is my favorite color and it's kind of the best dress shirt I have, so...I'll count myself lucky."

"Red is the single color that I would wear without any hesitation," Kurt replies in turn, glancing up approvingly when Billy holds out both arms, glad to see that the shirt has, at least, been kept in good condition. Having a go-to outfit isn't such a bad thing when the look is at least a classic one, and each article of clothing kept clean and pressed. "It looks good on almost every complexion, save perhaps for redheads, but even they have the benefit of being bold and almost ironic, the few times they slip into something red. And if cherry doesn't work, they can always opt for something deeper, closer to maroon. Point is, red's always good in my book."

Tilting his head, Kurt raises his hand to his chin in consideration. "Although really, if tihs is the best dress shirt you have, I get the feeling both of us should be spending some time at the box. At least, I'm sure, for the many Halloween parties I'm anticipating."

If anything, Kurt's minor rant on the color and its fashion credibility only makes him slide up a little more in Billy's estimation. His fashion choice of the night is more the exception than the rule when it comes to his closet, which mostly consists of geeky t-shirts and the various shorts he picks at random to pair them with.

"Yeah? I could definitely use some new clothes. And I'm totally throwing a birthday-slash-Halloween party for my boyfriend on the day. You're pre-invited."

"You have a boyfriend," Kurt remarks with a raised brow, expression curious, and almost holding his breath in anticipation. He wonders, at once, if that boyfriend might be mingling at the party, if Kurt's somehow missed the memo, or if he's slacked off just enough on watching people filter in that he's missed a guy or two. Somehow, he feels intensely invested in the relationship, though Billy's always been a casual friend at best, the two of them not having had enough time to share secrets, past experiences, to enjoy the same level of closeness that Kurt did with New Directions, or even the Warblers.

Possibly, he's simply marveling at the fact altogether, that there is a couple somewhere on the island, gay, and if not necessarily loud and proud, then at least not being suppressed.

"Well, I- I'm definitely going to be there, that's no question, I'll help prep too, if you want it," he offers first, quick, his words spilling one after the other. "Is your boyfriend here? Have I met him already, perhaps?"

"I have a boyfriend," he repeats, and the way Kurt reacts, the curiosity in his voice reminds Billy of himself when he first arrived, stunned at the idea that those who were gay on the island simply were. Despite finding Teddy and a group of friends and role models that accepted them, years of being bullied for being out still had their effect, even now.

He grins, thanking Kurt for the offer as he turns toward the bulk of the party, easily spotting Tony looking more put together than any teenage boy has any right to be. "That's him," he points out, "tall, dark and handsome."

"Hey," Kurt drawls, his tone playful as his gaze comes to a rest on Billy's boyfriend, not too far away. Content to just while away some time with Billy on the side, Kurt makes no effort to approach said tall, dark, and handsome, though he does offer an appraising nod. While Kurt finds himself with too many sincere interests to give Billy's boyfriend that much thought, a fact only compounded by how the young man is dating one of Kurt's own friends, he's still able to acknowledge the handsome look that Billy's boyfriend has. Cool, confident.

"Well done," he adds, peering back at Billy. "Consider me officially jealous, but still pleased nonetheless at finally being handed an opportunity to live vicariously, if even only for a moment. I had a guy who I was... crushing on pretty hard, back home. Turns out he was more in love with a salesman at the GAP."

Billy grins, still amazed sometimes at how different his life is on the island than it was back home. He doesn't have his powers and every now and then something tries to kill everyone, but he's got a boyfriend, a home, and more friends than he ever thought he would.

"That sucks," Billy winces. "I didn't really...do the whole crush thing back home." Until Teddy, Billy's crushes had either been boys who barely knew he was alive and wouldn't go near him, totally unavailable (as in, movie stars or superheroes), or fictional. "Maybe you'll find someone here? The amount of rainbow friendly guys here is kind of mind blowing."

"So I've been told," Kurt nods, brows pinching for a moment, still feeling overwhelmed by that very fact. One would expect- as Kurt himself did, upon first hearing that there were so many people of his persuasion on the island- that such news would be met with nothing but excitement, but with a greater choice set comes greater freedom. And frankly, Kurt's not sure just what kind of patient soul it'd take to deal with him on such a regular basis. "I don't know, though, it seems kind of- it's a risk that I've never had to take. It was always easier to pine for people who were totally unavailable, as much as that pains me to say now."

Traitorously, his gaze flickers towards a blond he's been all too aware of this evening, Kurt pulling his lower lip in and biting down at it before shaking his head, ridding himself of the thought. "Though a rainbow friendly society on the whole? Couldn't be happier to see that."
