"Lee, please don't read it. I know you're supposed to and I know it's protocol, but I'm asking," she whispered, dropping her forehead to meet his. "That was a different me, and I don't want every stupid juvenile thing I've ever done in your head when you think of me. OK? Please?"

Slipping his hands behind her neck to pull her eyes back to his, he was caught by the vulnerability in her face. He'd thought she was proud of her bad-ass disciplinary file. She's always pretended to be before. Waiting nervously for his response, her teeth worried her bottom lip absently and he had to restrain himself from reaching for it with his own. Instead he reached to tuck a wayward tendril of gold behind ear before promising her, "I'm not going to think any different of you Kara, no matter what that file says. I never could."

She just huffed out noise that clearly spoke of her disbelief in his dewy sentiment.

Pushing his chair further back, he rose with her still wrapped around his and moved them both on to the bed. Laying her down, he held himself rigidly over her. The intensity in his gaze overtook her and trying to deflect its power she wrapped her legs tightly around him and reached to pull him down to her body, where she could get lost in the touch of him and forget that red hot stare. He resisted and unable to maintain the strength of the connection, she broke away from his eyes turning her head. His palm was immediate against her cheek, gentle but insistent, pulling her gaze back to his.

"Kara," He breathed, willing her to hear him for once. Willing all his sincerity into the words that she so rarely allowed herself to believe. "I will never open that file again, if it's what you want. I think I know you well enough as a pilot not to need anyone else's opinion on the matter. But, you need to know that there is nothing inside those papers, frak, nothing in the universe that I could find out about you, that would change how I feel about you. Not a gods damned thing."

Gulping down the lump in her throat, she nodded wanting the words to be true, knowing he meant them but uncertain whether his resolution would endure under the weighty knowledge of her mistakes. There had been many. More than were cataloged within that flimsy file. She ached to believe him. Swallowing her panic, she willed herself to give him the chance to prove what he promised. Tampering down the fear, she rolled from beneath him and padding softly to the desk, picked up the manila folder. He just watched silently, his eyes never leaving her. He scooted to the side to let her drop back beside him, his arm wrapping around her to pull her tight to his chest.

She opened back to the page he'd left off. She held one side and his hand reached up to steady the other. He could feel the tension in her body, but her voice didn't waver.

"OK then, let's read it together."

Oh, I just love that she trusted him. It makes me ache for wanting this kind of openness and surety in their relationship. *happy sigh*

They certainly can be . . . when we're the one's in control. Haha. :)

Thanks!

Awwww, such sweet validation from Lee. It was interesting to read a different take on Kara, with her being so worried about her record! Nice job.

Thanks, I think I do generally tend to see her a little more vulnerable and a little less brash than she sometimes comes across in fandom. It's a personal thing. I like her tough in public and soft with Lee. :)

I love the insight you've given us into Kara here, the fact that when it's someone she cares about, she's ashamed of her failings. It feels very true to her. Just lovely :)

I think this is a great insight into Kara. She was often worried that those she cared about wouldn't be able to care for her once they knew what she was really like. We saw that in cannon and it just makes sense for a person who came from that kind of abuse.

I have to admit that I was worried by this fic. I know Lee means it when he says nothing will change how he feels about her but I'm araid. He has a tendency to have firm lines and not forgive easily once they're crossed.

Haha, can't blame you, I do sometimes like to bring the pain. But I'm glad I didn't this time. You need a break from the woe now and then.

He does. But at some point, she's gotta give him the chance to back up his words and I like that this piece leaves his reaction uncertain. It's more about her trusting him here.

Thanks so much for commenting!

I loved the details of her sitting on his lap...the scooting the chair out and her leaning into him. That really indicated so much about their relationship, so effortless and subliminally! Wow.

And then the intensity, the trust, the touching. *sigh* and *swoon*

Awwww.

So glad you enjoyed it. I think the majority of their relationship is unspoken and subliminal so I really try to focus on those little touches that say so much.

Thanks for noticing! :)

"Wow. Is this all true? Did you really..." He just shook his head. "There's no way this part is true."
LOL, I love how he starts off mad and then is like "woah, really??" So much laughing from me.

Ah and ending on the adorable fluffy note. This was heartwarming. <3

Awww! I love that Kara is willing to trust Lee even with her inner voice telling her he'll break his promise. So sweet pilots.
