Who's up for a character analysis of House, Wilson, their relationship, and House's connection to Dr. Cox?
Now, we all know House is a pretty good show, with characters you can easily relate to and fall for. Some go for Chase, others Foreman, but (as far as I'm concerned) predominately House, the stubborn, talented, obnoxious blue-eyed genius who gets all the hotties, be it girl or boy, all around the hospital and, in reality, a globe filled with swooning fan girls.
Yeah, that's not me.
I'm more of a Wilson type. See, Wilson's been the one I, well, not exactly identified with because we all know it's physically impossible for me to be that selfless... Wilson was the one I always had the most empathy for. All the pain and the shit House puts him through is never so great that he to stops lending House the support he needs. And yet, he barely realizes, let alone take care of, his own needs. It's not until Amber addresses that does he begin to consider doing what he wants. He progressed, and I just mewed at his happiness and thanked the good PTB House didn't have 'Whedon' writers who'd Joss it up.
Guess who was wrong?
And thus, I had to be proven wrong with season four's finally. Thanks, world, just thanks. That episode killed me dead. DEAD. There was one person who could have made Wilson happy, and I mean really happy, and asked only for his love in return, something he didn't have with other doctors (cough House, you leech cough). He deserved a good, healthy relationship with a pretty girl who loved him back. And he got her, and she did make him happy. For like, a season. AND THEN SHE DIED.
AMBER FUCKING DIED. AND FOLLOWING HER WHAT LOVE I HAD FOR HOUSE.
I mean, yeah, he risked his life to save hers, and I respect that, but his reasons were so damn selfish. He didn't do it to give Wilson a shoot at a long life of love, no, he did it so he wouldn't loose his best friend. A.K.A. the only fucking person who could not only fucking stand him but fucking love him in the way that wasn't 'Wow, I'm only standing you so I get in your pants' kind of thing. Because House is a self-absorbed bastard.
And Amber's death was enough to send Wilson over the edge. Seriously, who can blame him? He was so incredibly tolerant that his breaking point seemed nothing less than nonexistent, but House had to find a way to get to him, anyway. Creating their first fight as a couple was not enough, oh no, he had to go off and let the rumor of his and her affair infect the air (which Wilson still didn't mind) while she lay dying.
But then again, he did try to keep it a secret, and he did try his hardest to diagnose her, plus his backing up Wilson's decision to chill Amber, which I can appreciate. He did not, however, even attempt to lend Wilson the moral support he himself needed every fucking episode for every fucking case. Merr.
Moving in a totally different direction, I cried. Not once, not twice, but three times during that one episode. To give you a sense of context, I didn't cry when I watched Marley and Me. Not even when Nurse Roberts died on Scrubs. And only once when watching The Body, when Anya was that speech of hers. This one hit me really hard. Because it's Wilson. And Wilson is the only (well developed) character that constantly proves that there is a reason to love humanity.
And once more changing the direction, I can't see why everyone sees a connection with House and Cox from Scrubs. Even the writers acknowledged it on one of the episodes (Cox walks around with a cane, becomes uber cranky and uses more metaphors than usual). I s'pose I understand that they both don't hold respect for others' happiness, but it's different. I mean, Cox has a right to it, considering he helps along nearly every intern that walks through those glass doors, whether he hates it or not. His long winded rants always end in reflection and self improvement, moving past the fact of his own constant misery and again, helping out the 'Bambis' that wander through. House, however, is a jerk just to be a jerk. He doesn't have a hidden motive, he just hates everyone and rejects any life lines he is given.
But maybe that's just me.
