Confidence is a state of mind. It fills the person with trust and faith of what he/she believes in. It also assures the person that what he/she does is correct. It gives the person certainty. With confidence in a person, it enables that person to do things that he/she has never thought of doing, such as (but not limited to) talking to random strangers, skydiving, bungee jumping etc.
Yet, brimming with confidence is a good thing. However, once the confidence becomes abundant, and begins to overflow, it becomes a bad thing. All it takes is that one extra little drop that will cause it to spill. When done so, confidence becomes complacency. And that is terrible. If negative happens, all is good and well. But as the saying goes, when the shit hits the fan, there's no use crying over split milk.
Having little or no confidence on the otherhand, is also disastrous. Can you imagine having no faith in yourself? i believe that's the worst thing that can possibly happen to a person. You can believe in God, astrology, horoscopes and even the supernatural. But not having confidence is not believing in yourself. Success will turn into failure, hopes will be all but void.
All it takes is balance. But like every other thing that requires balance, it is finding the exact point where the fulcrum should be that is the hardest.
