What a perfect time to begin a journal! I always loved the beginnings of the stories best -- my mother used to fuss at me so much for reading half a book! When one starts a book, apparently one must finish a book lest something terrible happen -- I'm still waiting to see if A Charming Murder will explode. The last three chapters have been unread for almost twenty years!

Still, to the beginnings. My first little boy is off to school this year! I do think he's excited, especially because we're letting him have an owl to take with him. He and Arthur went off to Diagon last weekend, and they picked up a fiesty little bird we've christened Errol. (I think the family owl, Flynn, is a bit jealous! I hope he'll settle down once Bill and Errol are safe at Hogwarts -- he moults something awful when he's aggitated and there's only so many feathers you can find in a pie before you're put off.) I must admit, I'm a bit excited myself -- it's so beautiful to see your children go off into the wide world, having gone from such a delicate thing to a hale and hearty and self-reliant sort of person.

It'll be quiet with just Charlie and Percy here at home -- not too quiet, since Charlie will drag that plush dragon with him everywhere, but noise is what makes a house a home, I think. I'd like a bit more noise, really -- Percy's had another infection, and he's always quiet with his picture-books. I hate to push, but I think I'll have to take him out to the garden when I go gnoming today -- he needs the sunshine.

There's one more beginning to celebrate, but the news of that will wait until Arthur gets home today. Arthur, love, if you'd like a clue, that extra room you were thinking of adding on the Burrow might not go amiss now!
