This weekend: hooping, work, more hooping, and my Haw River Ballroom DJing debut

Audra finally made it over Wednesday night for her first hooping lesson. She'd caught a ride with Gunther, so she was stuck here for the whole gaming night, which gave me time to cram quite a bit into it. Being the principal dancer at her high school, she was a quick study. It was gratifying to hear her shriek of triumph when she nailed the escalator on the first go. We finished with a mini-jam on the covered deck during the thuderstorm. The music helped her ease into some actual flow. I sent her home with a core hoop, a trick hoop and a pair of Dollar Store twins. It'll be interesting to see how far she goes.

Today will be work on a work stick with extra work sauce, since we're closing an accounting period and a fiscal year and starting a new period and fiscal year at pretty much the same time. I've let the hooping workout routine slide for several days since it's crunch week, though I've managed to at least do a bit of flow each day. Gary will be in Mebane helping his boss with something, so it'll be the perfect time for me to focus on some of my tricker tasks.

Tomorrow will be my DJing debut at the Haw River Ballroom Hoopjam. It's been ages since I've run a board at a radio station and I've never done it at a club, so Eeee. I've seen their system go dodgy for other users, so I'm bringing my BoomCube as backup. Songs are loaded, device is charged, alarm is set and I've posted reminders and directions to the listgroups.

This is normally a small jam, so no pressure. They're small, but they're consistent. I've seen anywhere from three to seven people there at a time, but it's a peaceful drive, a lovely quirky site with suspended hardwood dance floor, high ceiling, sky lights, with a stage and a coffee shop tucked into the viewing gallery. Here's a video of a typical Haw River jam in process. There's also a bar and a local organic grocery store in the complex and nice decks and patio spaces outside. The only down side is that the AC isn't very effective on hot days, but the space is so fantastic that it's not a huge issue. I've been adding directions and other details to their normal announcements and cross-posting to other groups. We'll see how it goes.

Meanwhile, I'll take another stab at sleep to keep these great intentions on target....
