McWeekend

Last week was sufficiently exhausting that we missed a great birthday party and crashed on Friday with the house being an abominable mess. We let it sit until Sunday. Fun first, then back to reality.

First stop was Raleigh, where I bought one of Kirsten's brand new corsets that didn't fit her. Sweetheart style with green and black floral brocade, size 28, which is a bit big on me. I'll see if I can tweak it, trade it or keep it in case I put on some weight. As well as they're made (best construction I've ever seen), for $40 I couldn't go wrong. It wouldn't be hard at all for me to sell or trade, and again, at that price I might as well get one that fits me now, so I'd be looking at a 26. I was thinking of ordering this shirt from Retroscope to go with it, but now I think I'll take a stab at either altering a shirt that I have or one from the thrift store first.

After the corset acquisition we visited our favourite furniture store, Heavner's on Glenwood, where we got our den sofa, coffee table and mirror plus the mirror in our parlour.  We're keeping an eye out for the right computer tables, night stands, end tables, wall art, day bed and kitchen islands. Not that we can afford to get all of that at once, but we're keeping an eye out in case the right piece turns up. Nothing was quite the right combination of style, colour, size, sturdiness, etc. this time, but it was fun looking around.

After that we saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at Blue Ridge. Then we hit Moore Square in Raleigh for St. Paddy's Day and hung out with Malcolm, Kyle, Beth Anne and Nathalie. I had a Smithwick's and quite a nice Long Island iced tea. Gary and Malcolm bought kilts. In Gary's case it was the whole set - kilt, shirt, socks, flashes, sporran, belt, buckle and dagger pin. I had the green corset on and got stopped several times by ladies wanting to know where I got it. Emails were exchanged, since I can never remember the website. Then we all joined Brian, Kimberly, Gerry and Tracy at Tir Na Nog at the edge of the Square for about a half hour.

Then home to get ready for Motorco in Durham. Would have been great to get a nap in, but oh, well. Gary wore his kilt n' kaboodle and I did a skirt, Boots of Doom, green corset and a lace bolero. Nice warm fuzzies and schmoozing, and did some dancing, but the energy was kind of low all around. I get the sense that quite a few of us have been burning the candle at both ends, but again, it was worthwhile night. We stayed for a few hours then went home to pass out.

Note: We'd agreed the day before that we weren't in the mood to do anything for St. Paddy's Day this year.
