Girl in a Coma

I first heard of Girl in a Coma two days ago when a friend posted their cover of David Bowie's "As the World Falls Down".  Saw them last night at The Casbah in Durham. Jeebus. The sound of that haunting / fragile / savage / wide open voice, guitar, bass and drum will stick in my memory forever. They're one of those bands that you weep to watch because you didn't bring a boatload of friends to see them with you.

Only fourteen people in the audience, but still they played as if it were a packed stadium. I thought one guy among We Happy Few was bang on when he described them as a cross between Cowboy Junkies and Oingo Boingo. I'd even throw in Jolie Holland and a bit of The Cure, Concrete Blonde and Siouxie Sioux. The singer was so good I could barely stand it. She was sweet and gracious and said that they'd be back (!!!). Believe me, when they come back I will be bugging the crap out of everyone I know.

Their next tour stops are Atlanta, Nashville, Chatanooga and Savannah, back to Texas, then four shows in Florida. I bought one of every CD they had (I don't normally do that). If you ever find yourself with the good fortune to be on one of their tour stops, get out and see them - you'll never forget it.  Here are some samples:

Knocking at Your Door
Clumsy Sky
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Static Mind
Their Cell
