Chilling in Asheville then...Nooooo!

Well, Crap. I'm sick. Feelin' pretty stabby right now. Rough sore throat. Headache. Brain fog. And I think it's trying to sneak up into my ears. Fantastic. I'm scheduled for training tomorrow on the stuff I'm supposed to take over from our departing financial analyst. It's hard to learn when all you want to do is kill something. Feck.

I had Monday off. Took two more days and did a solo trip out to visit Isaac in Asheville. He's renting a nice little house tucked in the woods halfway up the side of a mountain. It has a huge deck with view across a valley to a mountain on the other side. It was mainly just chilling out. He introduced me to some places he likes in Asheville; dinner Monday night at Doc Chey's (Thai) downtown. Lunch the next day at White Duck Tacos in the River Arts District, then we snagged some groceries on the way back, at which time Isaac introduced me to the mysteries of Kambucha with Chia seeds.

I put in a few hours of work while lunch settled. It's pretty neat that I can sit on Isaac's squashy sofa, talk to people in such far-flung places as India, Sierra Leone, England, Scotland and Burkina Faso in this case, transfer huge sums of money while hanging out up in the woods. Meanwhile Isaac was on the other sofa putting the finishing touches on a website for one of his clients. While we worked, he introduced me to Portlandia on his roommate's ginormous TV.

When we were able to face food again, we cooked up a storm. Turkey Quinia Meatloaf, Roasted Red Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic, Mediterranean Chopped Salad served over Quinoa and Bobby Flay's Cole Slaw. I did big scrubdown of the kitchen while meatloaf and taters cooked with SouthPark, The John Stewart Show, and the Colebert Report and Saturday Night Live playing in the background. The next day we had lunch with Isaac's grandmother (my ex-mother-in-law) in Hendersonville before I headed back to Durham.

Meanwhile, Isaac's roommate was sick. Poor thing spent the whole time trying not to cough up his spleen. He kept his distance in hopes of not passing it on to me, but sure enough, I woke up today with a sore throat. I didn't necessarily catch it there - everywhere I look someone is coughing. It matters not from whence it came; I'm still not amused. Not much sleep last night ... for the past week, actually. Managed to make it through work today. Focused mainly on stuff that didn't require me to interact directly with humans, so nobody died. Got my February billing set up. Praying for some sleep tonight, otherwise I'll be left with maybe two working brain cells huddling together for warmth when I'm supposed to be training. Gah.
