My niece has landed in Kabul

My niece Shauna, bang out of college, scored a freelance temp gig with my sister's company as an Admin Generalist.  They had the good sense to notice that the kid's a sharp as a tack "She's touring the facilities....and picking up slack..."

So much so, in fact, that they offered her a three-month contract assignment in Afghanistan.  WhatwhatWHAT???!!!  Well.

Within a week all her paperwork was in order and before Thjora had time to properly pee her pants AndHugHerAndSqueezeHerAndPetHerAndCallHerGeorge... Her little girl was on a plane to Kabul via Dubai.

As one can only expect, Thjora had a hand-picked army of big brother types already deployed on the ground, so that there will be more people watching out for her than wanting to take advantage of her.  She's hoping she didn't create any big brother monsters.  After Shauna's been there awhile, Thjora would consider standing them down if they're driving her crazy.  We're interested to hear how her trip with her own personal security detail and armored car went.

I'll have to ask the next time I talk to her on Skype....Kabul's 10.5 hours ahead.  Easy to keep track of, since I already have a custom clock for all the offices I deal with, including Kabul.  OK...I'm flat out babbling here.  It's late.

So here's my niece.  Gorgeous, but not a delicate flower, armed with her Mom's rapier wit.  From her Facebook post the days after she landed in Kabul:

"Just got a Groupon via email for an Afghan restaurant in Falls Church. Irony."
