Saturday afternoon ... shooting people and humiliating the dog

Nov 14, 2010 00:00

This morning / afternoon was the Faerie Gothmother photoshoot.  Gorgeous day in excellent company.  Unfortunately, I felt no spark or inspiration to help me as a model (I would have done a much better job as "Sloth").  Then toward the end of the shoot, I busted out my camera.  I'm definitely more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it.  Tons of ideas that really engaged my mind on a number of levels, so I'm chalking it up as a well-spent afternoon.  (Why can't I think of these things until the last minute?)  Anyway, I got a few decent shots just as we were packing up.  My subjects here are Kelly (burgundy lace), Beth Anne (Pressed Faerie!) and Kirsten (silver corset).

As usual, I didn't figure out what I was going to wear until about an hour before I walked out the door.  According to my calendar, we were supposed to turn up at half ten, which will always remind me of the Black Books quote:  ("Half ten?!  Half TEN?  I've never been up at half ten before.......What happens?!")  My memory said 10:00 AM.  I set the alarm for 6:00....PM.  (Yay.)  Woke up at 6:45.   Stress and rising panic, then I checked the calendar.  10:30, not 10.  ::: whew ::: Then checked the email just to make sure....9:30.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ::: stresspanic :::  Out the door by 9:10 after locating and loading the chunky X-chairs.  Discovered that I was nearly out of gas.  !!!!   Put twenty bucks in the tank and hauled ass down I-40, slamming down Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi (yeah...bleaurggh, but that's what was cold in the fridge), called the organizer upon passing the Beltline exit on Wade Avenue at 9:30.  She hadn't left the house yet and wasn't planning to start until 10.  ::::whew::::  After that it was a lovely day.  The Fall colour was at its height and the temperature was barely chilly....just perfect.  I was glad that  I had this as a kick in the pants to get outside to see it.

All the ladies did a great job with their outfits.  The poor Girl of the Hour, Miss Penelope, age 2 was in no mood to be around a bunch of weird ladies in the bright sun in a fussy dress just a few days after recovering from roseola.  I'm just thinking what the family visiting Oakwood Cemetery must have thought seeing seven ladies dressed as faerie gothmothers and three dudes in street clothes all bouncing up and down outside The House of Memory singing "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round" to a crying toddler, which was pretty much what I was expecting after having thought it through.

No, I really wasn't feeling it as a model.  The bright sun, static in my hair and whatever was making my eyes and nose itch wasn't helping.  That and I really do find it hard to pose for pictures.  I just wanted to rip off all the frou-frou and start shooting.  The cemetery had some good vistas, especially The House of Memory, which diffuses the light nicely and makes a great backdrop.  I'd love to get out there again for a goth / victorian shoot amongst some of the more ornate gravestones.

We wrapped at around 1-ish, with most of the crew heading out to the Flying Saucer for lunch.  I headed in that direction until I remembered that I had two expensive and reasonably portable chairs in the back of an open pickup truck and opted not to risk them to downtown parking.

Went home and passed out for nearly five hours.  Gary ordered white pizza with spinach, feta, basil, sliced tomatos and pepperoni from Alfredo's.  Best pizza in the area apart from Lily's.  Mmmmm.  This was followed with some cozy afternoon cuddling, followed by a visit from Gavin, wherein we discussed physics, bacteria, relationships, spices and how to make a decent roux while I downloaded, re-sized, cropped and uploaded, with a few extras involving the dog and a set of Lyria's bunny ears from Halloween.  Like me, BunnyHound is all tuckered out.
