This is belated, but a few days ago I realized I mostly agree with Bush on an issue. It was scary. I also agreed with that Wendell guy who sometimes writes opinion columns in the Metro and I always hate his columns! The issue was the Armenian Genocide announcement. I agree it should be called a genocide. Everyone except Turkey already considers it one. Should it be officially labeled one right now? I don't think so. It's a grand gesture with good intentions, but no common sense. The genocide, although horrible, is over. Unfortunately, the people who were killed can not be saved or helped any longer. The war in Iraq is (also unfortunately) still happening. Congress members won't be effected by the official designation. They'll just feel good about agreeing with everyone and proclaiming genocide is bad. Military members, on the other hand, might be killed due to the implications. I don't like to think that our country can be bullied by Turkey, but if there seems to be no hope of their government changing their stance in the near future, the best action that can be taken is to protect the people of our own country.
