Island Relationships
Abbe Francois de Coulmier Partner (Lover)
A Roman Catholic Priest from 1813 and a gay man from 2010, they really should not be compatible but Atia works in strange ways. Coming together first as therapist and patient, a genuine friendship grew between them as they discovered they were more compatible than either could have expected. An intrinsic understanding of the walls they both hide behind left them both in the unique position of behind able to effortless get behind those walls to the real man beyond.
A frightening realization that some one is able to come so close, it had already deepened their friendship when an Atia generated curse sent them tumbling into a new level of intimacy. The physical expression of a connection that was already breathtaking generated into a perfect storm that left them both cast upon a shore together, confused and conflicted but crystal clear about one key element; love.
Love that went counter to all of Francois’s training, love that had Thom reaching for a man he had no business desiring but for once, they put aside the expectations of others and sought what their hearts told them they needed; each other.
Francois is Thom’s best friend, his confidant, his lover and his partner. Baring the turmoil of curses, when Atia will simply have her way, Thom is completely faithful to his spitfire priest, wearing a small ring on his pinkie as a talisman against the chaos Atian life can throw at them both.
Takeshi Yamamoto Good Friend
Second only to Francois, Takeshi is Thom’s best friend on the island, though for the moment they are painfully estranged. Takeshi has always been there, since the night Thom dragged himself away from Thanatos’s temple, through the worst lows and some of the greatest highs, Thom genuinely loves and was in love with his friend.
But circumstances never were kind to them. By the time Thom realized how he felt, Takeshi was also deeply in love with Haru Miura, a wonderful woman who Thom couldn’t bring himself to hate though he was deeply envious of her. Though they tried to have a open relationship, sharing Takeshi who has a heart big enough to go around the island twice over, Thom simply could not settle the situation in his heart.
He hurt Takeshi, twice over because of this and for the moment is trying to maintain a respectful distance, to see if they can salvage the friendship. Thom recognizes that in many ways, he has never been good for Takeshi, not in the way the man has been good for Thom.
Justin Taylor Good Friend
Justin started out as one of Thom’s physiotherapy patients but has long since become a good friend. Though they rarely see eye to on the subject of men and relationships in general, Justin has been there for Thom through some pretty low times.
The blond is quite capable of getting an amused chuckle out of Thom when he’s feeling down and Thom often finds himself entangled with the ups and downs of Justin’s relationship with Brian. As Kinney is also his friend, Thom tries hard not to take sides and usually he’d like to knock both their heads together!
Despite sharing a sexual orientation and a one time curse encounter, Thom’s feelings for Justin have softened to platonic friendship and he often confides in the younger man, confident that Justin will never sugar coat his opinion.
Brian Kinney Defies Definition
Brian Kinney the title says it all, their relationship defies definition. Sometimes openly antagonistic, they can fight like a snake and a mongoose when in the right -or wrong- mood, their relationship is more about what’s not said. Its about what lays, carefully threaded in between the sniping and the snarking. In his own way, Brian was there during one of the worst periods of Thom’s life on Atia and there have been times when Thom has been present for the ups and downs of Brian’s relationship with Justin.
Despite an attraction and the fact that they both have run in the same scene, played by the same rules and understand the game, they have never fucked. The attraction was there for a one time good hard one up against the wall but Thom’s friendship with Justin and Brian’s relationship with Justin held them both back. Now that attraction has morphed away from a desire to act on it and reshaped itself into a silent understanding of one another.
In many ways Brian is one of Thom’s best friends on the island, though Thom would never admit that out loud because he knows it would send Brian snarling for the hills. He respects Brian’s advice and does on occasion actively seek it, though Thom may or may not always follow it.
Major Ivan Raikov Who the Hell Knows
Thom’s relationship with Raikov defies any label. There is genuine hostility between them, born of misunderstandings, complete understanding, physical violence and routine trolling. They’ve had cursed sex on film -Thom used a condom and did not come- Raikov has punched Thom in the balls and Thom tried to convince Raikov his balls were going to be bitten by a venomous snake when Raikov was glued to a toilet.
They can truly be vicious to each other with the intent to inflict genuine discomfort and distress.
On the flip side, Thom’s learned over the past year how to listen to Raikov and he’s slowly come to see that the man is a product of his circumstances, rather than truly evil. He’s learned that there are times when Raikov needs to just be heard on subjects … okay on a subject (Paul Watkins) that truly means something to him. Though Thom understands that Raikov will never be capable of returning that level of confidence, he often finds himself willing to just listen quietly in the genuine hope of offering both men a chance to work through the problems that arise in their relationship.
However, this does not mean he lets his guard down around Raikov. Thom has no desire to get a fist to the face or dick again.
Euphemia li Britannia Friend
Thom met Euphie at the New Year’s Ball when they shared a dance and he found her utterly delightful. Later, he was to learn that she was a dear and close friend of Francois’s and they moved closer into each other’s spheres.
Sharing a close friendship with Francois, they both enjoy conspiring together to do nice things for their favorite priest, such as putting on a surprise birthday party for the man. So far their conversations revolve around their shared acquaintance, though perhaps in time they’ll evolve to topics that are more uniquely personal to each of them.
