Are you 18 or over? As much as I hate to admit it, yes I am, by several years. I'm 29. There I said it.
Canon: Torchwood S1 mostly from E13 End of Days.
Character: Ianto Jones
Timeline: So here's the run down, Ianto is coming in at End of Days, after Jack fights the Abaddon, but has just left with the Doctor. He's just sort of begun to realize the depth of his feelings for Jack but of course the man left him like he was nothing. He's not whiny, or really angsty, he's more or less resigned to the fact that their relationship will never be more than it already is and whatever it is.
Personality: Ianto, like Jack has his secrets, and gives up little about himself of his past. He claimed that his father was a master tailor, but it was later reviled that was not the truth. He is a conman, and possibly a better one than even the 'great' Jack Harkness himself. Having fooled him not only by hiding his partially converted Cyberwoman girlfriend in the basement of the Hub, but acquiring the job there at Torchwood 3 solely so that he could do so and try to find a 'cure'. Through, out the series it is there are other more subtle examples of his deceptions none more evident than when Gwen confronts his sister after his death and speaks of how well she knew him only to have Rhiannon question whether she 'even knew him at all'.
Ianto keeps most of his emotions tightly in check. He shows little on his features and normally maintains a fairly stoic neutral expression. He isn't without humor and often makes humorous witty one line dry remarks, that are often laced with sarcasm and deadpan humor. He plays himself to be more or less incapable, but is possibly one of best assets on the Torchwood staff. Ianto is stoic, and reserved. He is quiet and well mannered. He stays in the background cleaning up other people's messes and being the 'go to guy' for local knowledge and other information. Ianto is motivated mainly by the fact that he survived the War of Canary Wharf, and was given yet another chance by Jack after Lisa nearly destroyed the Hub. If anything, he doesn't understand what anyone sees in him, and feels he's basically 'useless', but does do whatever he can and makes a consistent effort normally proving otherwise.
He has a fairly dark outlook on the world. It isn't clear what his relationship was with his father, Ianto makes indications to it being one way, but his sister makes it seem completely different. Ianto has seen the terrible things in his short life, the Cyberman and the Daleks at Torchwood One. Jack and the teams execution of Lisa in the Hub. He didn't hesitate to shoot Owen when the Medic refused to listen to him and decided to try and open the Rift against Jack's orders. He's proven time and time again that he's willing to do whatever necessary to prove himself a valuable member of the team. Even if he himself isn't sure he really is.
History:
Ianto's wiki page for reference. Originally, a member of Torchwood One he barely survived the battle of Canary Wharf to during which that branch of the institute was destroyed. Afterward, he made it a point to do whatever was necessary to get the attention of Jack Harkness, and acquire a job at Torchwood 3, based on his previous knowledge, his skills and abilities, Jack finally relents and gives him the job. And Ianto uses his position to sneak in his partially converted Cyberwoman Girlfriend into the Hub in the hopes of 'saving' her. Things eventually go wrong and she nearly kills the entire team. He manages to betray Jack's trust and the trust of the team, but almost as punishment is allowed to continue his employment. Eventually, there are hints of a relationship that develops between Ianto and Jack, but at Ianto's canon point for purposes of this game, that relationship has just begun to progress into something more that what was describe by another team member as 'a part time shag'. Or at least Ianto believes it was, until Jack vanishes to go off with the Doctor and leaves the team alone.
Abilities/Weaknesses: Excellent marksman, fact finder, quick thinking, resourceful, good under pressure. Some familiarity with select alien/ Extraterrestrial customs/weaponry. Top physical condition, within the limits of any normal human with typical physical training, combat/weapons skills. He has some psychic training that makes it difficult for him to be fooled by some more simple psychic tricks. He is however, mortal and human so there for limited in the same ways as any 'normal' person would be.
First Person Sample: [video]
[Ianto looks into the screen, so that his face can be seen clearly but not too close. He leans forward and speaks quietly his tone heavily accented]
I'm not sure how I got here, or where the others are.
[He can be seen shifting to look over his shoulder]
I will find them, or they will find me. Surely, I'm important enough to the rest to be worth trying to find.
[his voice grows softer his blue eyes, sad and though the rest of his face remains fairly neutral. He speaks almost meekly barely heard before he cuts off the video]
I hope I am at least.....
[End transmission]
Third Person Sample: (This was just a quick something I had thrown together its set actually AFTER my chosen cannon point. But I hope it's good enough to pass as a sample.)
The Welshman nods at the orderly in the morgue. This is one of those times he really hates his job, not only is Jack dead, but by the look of him he's been that way since the previous day. This definitely would explain why they couldn't find him. Now, Ianto has to get him back to the Hub and.... wait.
"Thank you, I'll be taking him back with me now." He states calmly, in his even accented voice, all business. With a sigh, Ianto zips the bag closed and follows the coroner to the small office just outside this room to sign the necessary paper work for transferring possession of Jack’s body over to him.
(Jack, when you wake up I'm going to kill you).
Once all the required documents have been signed he makes his way back to the gurney on which the captain's body lies. His stony, stoic mask in place he begins wheeling the table toward the loading entrance and the waiting SUV. Always a few steps ahead, he's already taken the time to lower the seats and make the vehicle ready, before he left the Hub, just after he'd receive the phone call.
One of those phone calls he hoped he’d never get. (What if this time…)
He cuts the thought short.
(It’s Jack. It’s only a matter of time. It just takes longer sometimes. Just like with the Abaddon. Sometimes..there’s longer in between. Right. This is just one of those times.)
What the hell was he doing? He was supposed to be checking on what they thought was just a Weevil or a Hoix. Then he never came back. That was night before last, he was missing all day yesterday, and halfway through today, before the Welshman’s mobile rang.
Funny thing that.
That phone call he always hoped he’d never get. A phone call to tell you your (lover) boss is dead. A phone call, with the canned voice on the other end of the line, asking him to come down to identify the body. He feels himself shudder.. (Apparently, Jack has him listed as his ‘in case of’ contact? He’ll have to ask him about that when he wakes up, if he wakes up.)
Sterile. Lifeless. The building is cold and unfriendly. The condolences in the office as he signed the paperwork. Empty and hollow. They’ve said them so many times they’ve lost their meaning. It isn’t right.
Perhaps this entire scenario is affecting him a bit more because it is Jack. That must be it.
Despite being dead, from what he saw before he zipped him back into the bag, the captain doesn't have mark on him. Ianto’s brow furrows slightly as he loads Jack up and closes the vehicle. It isn't until the Welshman settles himself behind the wheel and starts the truck that he lets out a breath he wasn't aware he'd been holding. "Fuck I hate this."
