Thank Goodness for DVRs

I get too involved in Gator games.  When I say, "too involved," I mean that I rant at the television like a madman.  I rant, and I scream, and I jump up and down, because I want things to go well for them.  And while the conscious part of my mind knows that I can't actually do anything to help them, the other part of my brain, the one that still believes in magical thinking, is so frustrated that it can't make things go well for the Gators.  My wife can't stand to be in the house when I watch a Gator football game because of how I am during a game.

So tonight, I’m doing something that I hope will appease both sides of my brain: I’m not watching the game live.  Oh I’m still monitoring, the game, but I'm not watching the game.  The rational side of my brain is still able to keep up with what’s happening, but the irrational half of my brain, the side that’s usually frustrated, isn’t so worked up about it (especially since the Gators are up at the half).  So far this seems to be working.  I’ll let you know how it works out.

Ironically, my wife isn’t here tonight, so I could be watching the game, screaming my head off, but, instead, I’m going to stick with this approach.  Funnily enough, my mom called about five minutes into the game to ask how things were going.  She couldn’t watch either.  So, when the game is over, I’ll call her and tell her how it turned out.  Until then, I’m just monitoring things.
