"Am here," Firekeeper announced.

"I am not hearing about you doing anything," Firekeeper said, giving Francine a confused look.

"Really?" Francine asked, momentarily hopeful, if guarded. "You must be the only one." She shook her head. "Sorry, I was just spazzing out about Parents Weekend."

"Spazzing?" Firekeeper frowned. Blind Seer, meanwhile, wandered in and made himself comfortable on a spot on the floor.

"Freaking out?" Francine tried. She pointed to a clear spot on her bed, beside the books. "My mom is... really not gonna understand this place."

Firekeeper sat next to the books, eyeing them warily. "Am not understanding this place much either."

Firekeeper let out a snort of laughter. "Is that, at least," she conceded.

Francine smiled and lifted the book, whose cover sported a woodcut-type picture of two little boys leaning against a giant she-wolf. "Did you want to read about wolf-puppy-kids who founded a city?"

"Where they find it?" Firekeeper asked, misinterpreting Francine's question. "And how is one losing a city?"
