King Lear Re-write

Many know of the scandalous things that celebrities and the rich do, but when they break a law it seems as if there is as is there is an invisible force field around them. This is the message that Shakespeare is trying to send in King Lear. Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson, and Jenna Bush are just a few examples of how this could happen.
The self proclaimed king of pop, Michael Jackson, has been one of the most scandalous celebrities; he has been sued by many families because of his “intimate” relations with their young children. Many would say that Jackson’s well paid staff of lawyers has gotten him out of several counts of child molestation, the most recent in 2005. Much like Jackson is former football star O.J. Simpson, who was charged for the murder of his wife, but acquitted after the amazingly expensive representation of Johnnie Cochran. Both celebrities used their lawyers, as their shield, the shield they acquired after paying millions of dollars. The lawyers would not have represented them if it were not for their value.
The first family is upheld as one of the most important families in the United States, but what happens when the first daughter is found drinking alcohol at the age of 19? Nothing really, Jenna Bush did just this, and the officials of Austin, Texas just presented Miss Bush with a citation. The serious charge of underage drinking can result in a mandatory loss of Driving Privilege for 6 months, and a minimum fee of 500 dollars.
Celebrities and the rich have an image to uphold, they will do anything to conceal their vices, even if it means slipping a couple hundred dollar bills in the pocket of a police officer.
