Rented Lawrence of Arabia this weekend

Just finished watching it. I had seen it before, earlier this year, whilst at home one afternoon. I remember thinking it was too long to hold my attention, so deliberately setting out to only half-watch it whilst doing other things. Drifted in and out a little bit, but was absolutely gripped by the end.

So I thought it would be nice to see it again, and to have T see it.

Wow. Just wow. One of the most beautiful films ever made, surely. And never mind that it was also brilliantly written, scored, cast and acted. Peter O'Toole gives such an amazing performance that it makes me want to see everything he's ever been in. The cinematography is so jaw-droppingly awesome that it would take a special sort of actor with a special sort of look to be able to hold his own, but O'Toole does and he does it well. I'm wondering whether he inspired David Bowie, because he looks so unbelievably alien and yet beautiful as well.

Want to see more David Lean films now. I mean, I've seen some of his other films, but I want to see them again. Bridge On The River Kwai - that would be aces to see again.

I wish they'd show films like this at sensible times when people might be able to watch them, rather than in the daytime during the working week, or in the middle of the night. Grr.

And at the time of writing, Peter O'Toole was still not dead. In fact, a quick glance at IMDB reveals that oh-my-christ he's about to appear in a remake of Lassie!
