Stolen from TROY BOLTON! Of all people :D
This thing's actually fairly cool. Long to do! But it helps clear up any misnomers people might have, especially with book characters you don't see on screen as often as you would with movie or TV characters, so I think it's neat.
Just DEAR GOD, it takes forever.
[Body and Appearance]
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Sirius is about 5'8". He's very slight, very thin, but he's not necessarily scrawny. He's got some muscles! He's spent a lot of his time outside and doing various tree-climbing, grass-rolling, lake-swimming boy things, so he's got some to show for that.
2. How old is he?
He just turned 17 on April 5th.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Years of Yay Propriety Training have taught Sirius to carry himself fairly well, yes, he has pretty decent posture. there's a very comfortable way he holds himself. But he can also slump like a champion.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He's in shape, but then again he's a 17-year-old boy. The rate he's going, how unhealthy he eats, how much he smokes and drinks, he's not sure how long that's going to last. He's already losing foot races to James, boo :(
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Like with his posture, there's always some kind of underlying tone of grace with Sirius' motions. It's annoying, and he rather dislikes it. To the point where sometimes he'll clomp around, purposefully thick, almost like he's trying to un-train himself.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Sirius ain't gonna lie: He's pretty hawst. He's got good genes! Well, in that sense. He's got decent bone structure, sharp eyes, an endearing smile. He can be a bit stuck-up about it - he knows he looks good, after all, he's heard enough girls in the school telling him. But he's still a teenager, and he will have those days where he'll be as insecure as the next person.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Caucasian. He's fairly pale, but once it starts getting to be warmer like it is now, he'll be outside more, he'll get a bit more of a tanned look. For the most part, his complexion is fairly smooth, although he has his fair share of scars. Specifically, one large, circular burn on his left shoulder, a lot of little scattered ones about his arms that aren't particularly noticeable unless you're looking for them. He's got a few nasty scratches, from full moons, in various places. He also has
a tattoo that he's just gotten, about the size of a fist, on the left side of his chest.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Sirius' hair is blaaack black black. Yay Purebloods. It's longer right now - kind of hanging ARTFULLY SEXILY in his eyes. Sirius' hair sort of changes with his moods, and it's one of the only indications sometimes. It's always some degree of unkempt, but it gets really bad when he's bothered by something - specifically, like right now, with his family. He's gonna put less effort into his half-assed finger-combing, so it's a bit tangled and shaggy.
9. What color are his eyes?
Grey.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
It's mostly in the eyes - Sirius' are often described to be very intense. He's got fairly high cheekbones as well.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
His shoulders and his back - they tense up when he gets off about something.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
A lot of the time at school, Sirius is going to be in his uniform, of which he's got a few variations, of course. It's always in some form of disarray - low-slung ties, missing sweaters, robes hanging open - and usually looks nothing like the uniform once he's done with it, but, at some point! It was a Hogwarts uniform. Otherwise, he's very casual, in Muggle clothes. Jeans, hoodies, t-shirts. He wears his uncle's hand-me-down leather jacket quite a bit as well - brown leather.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Oh yeah. Sirius always looks some degree of relaxed, and he definitely dresses for slouching all over people.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
What is this-- job? You speak of?
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers. Occasionally boxer-briefs. He went commando once and squished his junk, so he didn't like that shit :/
[Speech]
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Sirius' voice is fairly deep - he's mostly finished going through puberty, so.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Depends on the situation. Normally, he speaks with quite a bit of confidence. Evenly and rather practiced, even if he's doing something as easy as... telling some pervy joke. It's when he gets to talking about the important things that it's like a filter does down and he has a horrid time trying to get out ANY words, never mind ones that should be slung together in any shape or form.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
London-born, so Sirius has got an accent - I actually imagine it a bit like
Ed Westwick's? For some reason. Don't ask me why, but that's pretty much how I imagine Sirius' voice to sound XD He has a few verbal tics - 'well', 'mate', 'yknow', 'I s'pose'. And he also swears. Quite a bit.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
He speaks predominately English, though he is pretty much fluent in French. He can also say 'hello', 'where is the bathroom', and various swears in a few other languages.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He used to! Younger!Sirius used to retain a sense of propriety around adults, best he could. But he's long grown out of that. He shows his respect for people with how comfortable he is around them now.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
I don't think Sirius ever thinks about what he says. He just goes on the fly, sometimes ranting or cracking jokes. He's said aloud sometimes while he's talking that he doesn't even know WHAT he's talking about, because sometimes his trains of thought get out of hand.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Pretty much the same as in #2 - more or less articulate until everything goes to hell, yusss.
[Mental and Emotional]
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Sirius is actually really, really intelligent. Despite what he says, he knows quite a bit what he's talking about, he can read people fairly well, he's had enough experience with getting out of mischief to think on the fly. He just doesn't apply himself. He doesn't study, doesn't do homework, doesn't read too much. He's very street-smart and people-oriented; not so much with the books.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Even important decisions, Sirius tends to make snap choices and roll through with what he's doing before he can really consider consequences.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Sirius is a bit too jaded by his family to be too idealistic anymore. But that doesn't change that he's still technically a kid, and he would love for everyone to just get along, yo. He kind of gives up on practicality - things like how he could earn money, get food, live life - focusing instead on the dream at hand.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He was home-schooled for the first part of his life, tutors at Grimmauld Place who would teach him (rather biased) history, reading, arithmetic, all the important school things, as well as 'propriety lessons' - which fork goes where, how to ask about the weather, etc. From there, he went to Hogwarts, and he's been there since - one more year in school before he's done.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Between his mischief and his little side projects, Sirius is very good at Charms and those tricky sorts of things. He's been known to use a few spells far beyond his level of schooling - he is, after all, a self-taught Animagus. He's also got a bit of an innate disposition to things magical, very good at Potions and Transfiguration, as well as sensing when OTHER things are magical.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert extrovert extrovert. Sirius is all over the place and friends with most of everyone.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy?
Sirius' temperament is-- a bit all over the place. It's easy to set him off, with a lot of everything. He's the first to laugh at jokes, it only takes little comments to set him off, and he has a temper - a re~eally bad temper. It's been at a bit of a lull as of late because he's been a bit distracted and happy with Remus, but it'll probably start coming out to play again soon.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Good until proven otherwise, is the motto Sirius tries to hold onto. He's friendly with new people until they show off doucheyness, pretty much.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act. He's kind of always plotting something, and he just does things sometimes, damn the consequences.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight, more than often. Again, the temper thing, and he will start winging insults and threats before he backs down or apologizes. It gets him in trouble quite a bit.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
All of the above? Sirius has a great sense of humor. A crude one more than often, sure - he will never outgrow fart jokes, or pervy ones, I don't think. And pranks are his forte - he's not infamous in the school for no reason. April Fool's and Halloween are his favorite holidays, and pranking a certain greasy Snivellus is a grand pasttime.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Sirius hasn't been diagnosed with anything specific, but, you know, it wouldn't surprise me if he had something.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
I actually wrote a
whole prompt on something similar. Long story short, Sirius' big, defining factor in his life is his family. Nearly everything he does is something just so violently opposed to their beliefs and their acts, against Dark magic and the like. How crass he is, how loud he is, how casual he dresses, how long his hair's gotten, his motorbike, his tattoo. It's all reactions, in the opposite direction of what his family would approve of.
14. What does he fear?
Abandonment is a pretty big fear of his. Again, with the family mapping out a lot of his problems and personality traits, after being rejected by their ideals and everything. He's terrified the Potters are going to do the same, or his friends. Hence why irony!verse!Sirius was so quick to sell his soul! YUS.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
NO IDEA /o/
Seriously. He hasn't a clue what he's going to do after school and it kind of scares the shit out of him.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
That, um. He wants to take you to a gay bar, Gay Bar, GAY BAR? Okay, in all honesty, AGAIN, this is a theme in Sirius' life, his family. He'll talk about it in jest sometimes, little snippets of surface stuff, but you'd be hard-pressed to get Sirius to talk about things that've happened in that house. He hasn't even told James much of any of it, and James probably knows him better than anyone else, even more than Remus.
[Relationships]
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Ahahaha. Sirius never particularly coincided with his parents' ideals. Even when he was younger, he'd go along with what they said, but there would be a bit of resistance on his part, due to an innate sense of Something Is Not Right Here. Once he made it into Gryffindor rather than Slytherin, Sirius started getting estranged from his parents - they were so wildly disappointed that he wasn't in Slytherin that they sort of took it out on him.
His mother, in particular, has always been incredibly forbearing. She's tried to control Sirius since a young age (unsuccessfully), and is constantly comparing him to his younger brother, Regulus. As a result of their Dark magic use and their support of purity elitism, Sirius ran away from home when he was sixteen, and now lives with the Potters.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
SPEAKING of Regulus. Sirius and Regulus actually used to be incredibly close! They were very brotherly, and Sirius would take care of him, at times. At least where Walburga and Orion weren't very equipped for parenting, he filled in. Once Sirius got into Gryffindor and disappointed his parents, Regulus kind of went the way they did as well - treating Sirius like a bit of an embarrassment. The two are on very sour terms now - Sirius refuses to hear his side of the story or listen to him in any capacity, and it's gotten a bit ugly as a consequence.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He WAS close to his Uncle Alphard. Alphard was one of the only family members who didn't mind Sirius' blood traitor status, and was burned off the family tree himself when he left Sirius his inheritance. Andromeda is another cousin he's always gotten along with, as she has no problem with Muggles, and even married a Muggle-born husband.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Oh, yes. The Potters are who Sirius considers to be his real family. He calls James' mother 'mum', his father 'dad', he lives with them. He's practically a whole other addition to the family.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
James Potter and Sirius Black have been attached at the hip since first year. They were dorm mates, shared the same flare for trouble (as well as more than enough cockiness), and they haven't been separated since. The Potters took Sirius in when he ran away from home, and James is practically Sirius' other half. No, really, to the point where they almost finish each other's sentences and... it's kind of sad. Awesome! But sad.
6. Does he have other close friends?
The Marauders, naturally. Remus has been only second to James since second year - since Sirius was... admittedly douchey during first year, and kind of treated Remus like... not like crap (maybe a little like crap), but certainly a rudely. The two were friends, but they didn't really get close until everything. When Sirius was starting to find out people were more than their blood, and that Remus was a lot more than a little book worm. Pete, on the other hand, has been the sort of third wheel to Sirius' and James' bromance since first year, following them around and the sort. Pete's closer to James than he is to Sirius, but the two are still very good friends.
Other canon characters Sirius has as friends include Gideon Prewett, Marlene McKinnon, Andromeda Black-Tonks, and, begrudgingly, sometimes, Lily Evans. But more often not.
Non-canonly, Sirius is very good friends with both Stephen Durfey (Duffy, an OC) and Adam Faulkner (from Saw). Ella McKenzie (another OC) is also fairly close to Sirius, as well as Mag (from Repo! the Genetic Opera), Carlene Le (another OC), and Kon-El (DC Comics).
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Oh, yes. Sirius is incredibly charismatic when it matters, and he could get along with a house plant if the situation came up. He's an excellent banterer, good at small talk, and will get along with most of anyone unless he has reason otherwise.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
No contest - Sirius' friends ARE his real family to him. The Blacks just happen to share a name, in his eyes.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Sirius has never been married, no. He is, however, in a fairly stable relationship with his friend, Remus Lupin.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
NO, he's so over that o_o Hopefully.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Sirius barely remembers who his first crush was, though he thinks it was Carrie in second year (WHOEVER THAT IS). His latest isn't really a crush per se, as 'crush' insinuates something is one-sided, and Remus... definitely returns the feelings XD
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He didn't really know until now. It was mostly just 'does it move?' and 'will it make out with me?' before. Monogamy is definitely new to Sirius.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
He's not sure he ever wants kids, and he comes up for a hundred reasons why. Because he doesn't want to pass on the Black family name. Because he's dating a bloke. Because the bloke he's dating is a werewolf. Because what if he breaks up with the person he's with. Because what if he's a shit father. Technically, he is a godfather - or he's met his future godson, try to follow - but he's not sure he could handle his OWN kids. Luckily, he's only 17 - he has a bit to decide. (Or so he thinks :/)
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Almost anyone in his family! :D He doesn't get along with most of any of them, particularly. The worst of which being his brother Regulus, his mother Walburga, and his cousin Bellatrix. Also incredibly high up on that list is Severus Snape, more commonly known as Snivellus (or Snivelly, or Snivs, or--). Sirius associates his family with Slytherins and, well, he'll take a lot of opportunities to lash out at a metaphorical 'them' - like Snape. Snape represents his family, in ways, in Sirius' eyes, and he'll take every chance to bite.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Interesting question! Sirius started off predominately straight. He's been leaning more towards the gay end of the spectrum, for sure. He's always been incredibly comfortable with his sexuality, and he doesn't really lean any particular way insofar as gender. It's more the person behind the gender - as long as he gets off, naturally >>
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
He's... a little interested in it, yeah! And by interested, I mean he's had it dozens of times, more than he'd like to indulge to Remus. It's been mostly games to him - just a way to get off and that was it, no feelings behind it. He lost his virginity when he was thirteen, and he had sex pretty regularly after that. Remus, however, is definitely a virgin and doesn't want to jump into things right away. Sex is becoming less just a physical act and something to do, like drinking or drugs, and more like... well, he's not sure. So he's had to alter those urges quite a bit. With the use of lots of creative wanking, mostly.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Sirius is incredibly possessive - which probably has a whole lot to do with the Padfoot side of him. He likes biting quite a bit, kissing people all over, touching every inch and mapping things out, getting entirely acquainted with someone's body. He's not into the weird stuff, whips or leather or bondage or anything like that (not that he's found out so far), but he's definitely up for trying out new positions and angles and yes.
[Beliefs]
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Aries Traits
Adventurous and energetic
Pioneering and courageous
Enthusiastic and confident
Dynamic and quick-witted
On the dark side...
Selfish and quick-tempered
Impulsive and impatient
Foolhardy and daredevil
...Oh yeah. It fits a bit.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Sirius never particularly believed in any kind of god. On top of that, his family followed the darker side of wizarding religion, Merlin's paganism and blood magic, and so he's kind of violently opposed to religion as a side effect. He wants nothing to do with church, with gods, with any of that. He'll mock anyone who follows religion, to sorts - wizarding and Muggle alike - and gets a bit conspiracy theory about it (way to organize the masses!! and all that).
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Oh boy. Don't even get him started. He could rant forever about Pureblood elitism and how wrong it is aaaand Death Eaters and. Yes. He is not compromising on it. Ever.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Depending on what it is. Sirius is incredibly stubborn in his ways. He'll be curious about other people's ways of going about things! But he is very stuck on where he's at, re: religion, beliefs, relationships, etc. He's been known to change some things, but mostly only if he sees it as his own doing, his own choice.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Mostly, just Pureblood wizards who feel that Pureblood is the only way to go. It's not irrational - it's actually very thought-out. The wizarding race would die out if they didn't spread the family around, or mix with Muggles and the like. either that or it would eventually become so inbred that it would be rendered worthless, at some point. He doesn't see the point in limiting oneself to one particular type of person - Purebloods, in this case. Hell, he's dating a half-blood werewolf.
[Daily Life]
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Sirius seems rich, at face value, but he's living off the inheritance his uncle gave him. Which was, fairly enough, a large sum of money! But without more money coming in, it's going to run out eventually. He was always well-off, with the Blacks, and then went on to live with the Potters, who were also very endowed. So he doesn't really know what it's like to not really have the money for things, or earning a living. He's never had a job. He wants to get his own apartment and start living on his own, and, ooh, boy, is that going to be a shell shock for him.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Sirius is certainly the most popular of the Marauders, but in sort of a class clown kind of way. People are friends with him, but he's not particularly 'popular' by any means (just in comparison to the others). He's loud and a bit obnoxious, got a knack for being a troublemaker, so he's well-known! Just not necessarily overall liked. His temper's earned him a bit of a reputation in the school, as well as his sexual habits and the people he associates with. Not that he particularly cares.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
For the time being, Sirius makes his residence in the Potters' home. They've transformed a guest bedroom into one just for him. They live in a suburban neighborhood and are fairly well-off - i.e. a rather large house, a nice bedroom, fairly neat, etc. When he's not there, he's living at his boarding school, Hogwarts, in a dorm room he shares with his three roommates - James, Remus and Pete. As it is four boys living in the room, it is usually very messy and very boy-ish. Although the house elves do clean up quite a bit.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Mostly... illegal things. Lots of booze, and quite a bit of cigarettes right now. Some drugs (Gillyweed!), and also other frivolous, spur of the moment buys. Random sunglasses, clothing items, even some comic books! Nothing particularly important, which he should probably change, considering it's coming around the time when he should be getting his own flat. Oooops.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Sirius is a student at Hogwarts, at least until June of next year when he graduates. He's good at school! At least at flying by the seat of his pants. He's got fairly good marks, mostly from bullshitting - he doesn't study, doesn't do homework; he just tends to test well and know what he's talking about. He enjoys it for the time being, only because he's terrified of what's coming after school - he has no idea what he's going to do once he's out of the groove of Hogwarts.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Anything! He doesn't really have any extracurricular activities or specific hobbies. He'll entertain himself however he can - pranks, debauchery, hanging out with friends, drinking, drawing, talking, smoking, jumping on beds, playing pick-up Quidditch games. Rolling around in grass! Makeouts! Whatever's on the table.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Oh, so unhealthy. Sirius has a pattern of eating as spasmodic as his personality. He eats like a horse when he does - he's been told he has a hollow leg that he stores it all in, because he can just tuck it away, despite being a twig. But he also skips meals, forgets to eat other days, will just not eat on days when he doesn't feel like it. He needs to be kept on a leash, essentially, and... probably watched over xD He doesn't really know how to take care of himself. Hence the binge-drinking that goes on quite often as well.
Junk food is grand. Healthy stuff, only sometimes.
