ok I have to post this now before I keep fucking with it and adding to it and I ruin the whole thing. *squints at the changes I've made* I can't keep my fingers out of the dough unless I stick it up here for the world to look at, so I'm taking away the temptation ( Read more... )

Ah! This is my favourite chapter too! Well I dont know what happens in 6, so it is my favourite chapter so far.

“Christ, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, I don’t want to….” Angel drew in a shuddering breath, easing back when Spike started to turn towards him, slowly for advanced warning. Bad to startle him after…the last time he’d taken to the street like a startled deer, Spike barely found him before sunrise

Aww. I love the familiarity in this, in Spike's thoughts. He's been through it before. It's not the first, it doesnt even sound like it's the fifth or tenth time.

but he made sure he bragged to his old sire about the way he glutted more than any one vampire needed to survive. Okay, i admit, I was stupid. At first I thought he was just all neener neener so Angel would get all violent and put out, i didnt realise that he was feeding him too, until I got to that line, so it was like a HUGE reveal for me and I enjoyed it very much!

So he's playing it like that, does Angel know, somewhere inside, (if this is a familiar thing) what Spike is doing? Even if he doesnt want to admit it to himself. I believe Angel's quite adept at 'not admitting' things to himself.

So he couldn’t afford to bugger it up.

Not this time! I know a lot of Spike's plans fall apart because he's impatient, but he does this with finesse.

yay for having the same favorite chapter!

yeah, by this point, they've been doing this feed-from-spike thing for *calculates* three and a half years, so I imagine there have been many breakdowns, when Angel is feeling particularly shitty for whatever reason. it's always struck me how infinitely patient Spike was with Dru's madness, even though he had such a short fuse for everything else. I didn't like spike/dru so much as how Spike *was* with Dru...the way he humored her when she saw stars on the ceiling of the factory. I can imagine him coming at Angel's madness differently, but being just as...weeble-like. keeps rebounding, ready to deal with more.

Okay, i admit, I was stupid. At first I thought he was just all neener neener so Angel would get all violent and put out, i didnt realise that he was feeding him too, until I got to that line, so it was like a HUGE reveal for me and I enjoyed it very much!
well that was totally the master plan, so that just means that the design of the scene worked :D which makes *me* happy. glad you enjoyed it. I think that's why I liked writing this chapter so much, because it's easy to believe that spike would just be neener-neener...but then it's easy to believe the purpose to it as well. at least, it is for me.

I think Angel does know, but they'd avoid talking about it directly because I think if he acknowledges it, he wouldn't allow it to continue. *couldn't*. and you're right, Angel's the king of denial.
