NOTES: Snow White and the Huntsman was a 2012 film that sought to cash in on both Kristen Stewart's popularity post-Twilight and the trend of "darker and grittier" retellings of fairy tales starring attractive young Hollywood starlets EXCEPT CHARLIZE THERON STOLE THE SHOW IN THIS CASE. It opens with Snow White's mother dying soon after childbirth, and her father, the king, battling a dark army attacking the kingdom. After defeating them, the king discovers Ravenna, a young woman who had been held prisoner, and rescues her from the control of the dark army. He then falls in love with her and marries her, because of course he does.
On their wedding night, now-Queen Ravenna kills the king and takes control of the entire kingdom. Surprise! Turns out she is a powerful sorceress and had actually been the one leading the dark army in the beginning. YOU GO GIRL She locks Snow White away in a tower and proceeds to be supreme villainous ruler of the land who happens to stay eternally beautiful by periodically taking young women from the kingdom and sucking the life out of them. #shithappens. Eventually Snow White grows to appropriate protagonist age and breaks out of the tower, leading to her meeting the Huntsman and the seven dwarfs and the "actual" plot of the movie commencing. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS MIX IS ABOUT.
