Book Signing Report

May 10, 2008 11:28

My sister-in-law and I had a blast at the book signing last night.  It was held at a local high school and there were about a thousand people there.  Nine hundred women and maybe about a hundred guys.

Stephenie Meyer spoke for about twenty minutes.  She answered questions that had been submitted earlier by people who bought the book on Tuesday.  Most of the questions were about her as a writer.  There were a few questions about Twilight.  The most interesting of these was the question abotu whether or not Breaking Dawn will be the last book in the series.  Her answer was "I don't know."  She did say that it would be the last one told from Bella's POV.  She says that this book is the natural ending for Bella's story.  I don't know whether to be worried by that statement or not.

The book signing was the longest part of the evening.  The staff from Barnes & Noble handled things very nicely.  We only had to stand in line for about twenty minutes or so.  The rest of the time we waited in the chairs that we had been seated in for Stephenie Meyer's talk.  We were sitting near the middle, so it was about an hour and a half before we got to line up.  Ms. Meyer had been signing for almost two hours before I got my turn.  I felt sorry for her (it was almost 10pm and she was going to be there a while longer).  She was very sweet and she made an effort to greet everyone by name.

It was a lot of fun.  I just wish I hadn't had to get up and come to work this morning.  So far it has been san extremely slow day at the library.
