nothing wrong with learning from your mistakes. In fact, if you make a mistake, you should always learn from it.

However, don't get into the mind set of "its okay to screw up as long as I learn from it".....There is a difference between making mistakes to learn from them, and learning from mistakes you make.

Its always better to learn the lesson without making the mistake if possible.

Im not saying you are like this, but so many people I talk with now days seem to think that its okay to go through life carefree, cuz hey, if you screw up, you learn from your mistakes, and everything is a-okay. That was never what was meant by "learning from your mistakes" it doesnt mean you just do everything blindly, and as long as you learn a lesson, its okay. Sometimes those mistakes, even if you learn from them, will have life changing consequences for the better. If you drive drunk and kill someone, learning "i shouldnt drive drunk" doesnt change the fact that someone died. If you smoke and get lung cancer, learning "smoking is bad" doesnt make the cancer go away. Even when you learn, there are still consequnces. (i know you would never do those two things, but they are just examples)

So, listen to others, take their advice. Maybe they learned from making the same mistake you are destined to make. Learn from THEIR mistakes, not your own. Learn from the kid in your HS that died because he was driving drunk that drunk driving is bad, learn from the distant uncle that died of lung cancer that smoking is bad. Learn the lessons without making the mistakes.
