I've been reading some Doctor Who fiction recently. There is no regular season this year, and as much as I don't LOVE the new stuff (not as much as the old stuff at least), I guess I still miss it. And the books are really rather fun.
The best bit is really what makes the series so much fun - each book can be so different. The first one I read was set on Earth in the future and had really big alien battle worms. At least it was set in Africa, the show doesn't usually deviate from England.
The second was set on a prison planet and featured Slitheen (a very annoying stupid alien creation from the new series) and other strange aliens. It really wasn't so bad, but the big twist was that the bad guys weren't really Slitheen - they were another family from the same planet that look and act exactly like Slitheen. Lame.
The third is set in London, 1921 and it's proving to be the best so far. Very mysterious and trying to figure out who the aliens/bad guys actually are. I suppose that's a formula that has produced some of the fan-favorites from the original series. Good stuff.
