Cat Vomit

The only thing that sucks about having cats is that as they get older they get health problems! My cats are the only ones I've ever owned so I have never had to deal with cat issues before. When I first got the cats I was hoping that by the time they got older I would have plenty of money to pay for all their vet bills. Sadly I am making ( Read more... )

My cats have bouts of vomiting every couple weeks, sometimes. I usually just switch their food and it stops for awhile, then I switch it again, and again. I just keep a bunch of different foods around so I can switch like that.

Also Cookie Puss has Inflamatory Bowel Disease and the vets I went to in L.A. wouldn't treat him without knowing exactly what he had, which can only be determined by a biopsy and/or that thing where they stick the camera up ionto their tummies. They had already done the ultrasound and the needle bipsy which of course, came back with no good results and were ridiculously expensive. It seemed too invasive and too expensive to do the other thing so I brought him to Colorado to see a specialist here. He is an excellent vet and when I asked if we could just go ahead and treat for the easiest thing (IBD) he said yes, so we put Cookie on prednisolone, which has been working for the past 4 years. It's not expensive at all and he is easy to pill. Most vets are jerks so if you can find one who will work with you and be reasonable, you should switch.

YeaH I am in the process of trying different foods right now. I was all excited about the Duck and Pea food, but Starla won't eat it! My other cats think it's fine. Ugh. I've already tried to give her Pepcid AC pills that the vet gave me, and so far I haven't been successful at all. I try putting them in the back of her mouth, and putting them in a pill pocket treat, but it didn't work.

If I can't solve her vomiting with food, I will probably get the x-ray, and if they don't see anything I was going to ask if I could treat it as IBD just to see what happened. I just have to figure out a way to get the pills down her throat. I went to a new vet that gets really good recommendations online. They seem fine, but it's like going to a regular doctor, where you spend a bunch of money and still don't know what's wrong with you. I'm sorry Cookie Puss has IBD:(
