My to read list

My inner-frugalness caved (tee-hee) and I have bought 4 books since my last post...

For those interested my year 12 books were Sometimes Gladness by Bruce Dawe ,The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and Night by Elie Wiesel.

The Well of Shades by Juiliet Marillier
The third installment of the Bridei Chronicles; a fictional history novel loosely based on Pictish history. Ever since The Daughter of the Forrest from the Sevenwaters Trilogy I've been keeping a keen eyes on books by this author. I love how she always manages to draw up such great power for the mystical beings based on folklore that was said to have existed during that time period. I know it'll be a great read.

The Embers of Heaven by Alma Alexander
I've started this book; about 200+ pages in. The book is another fictional history with it's historical background based on Imperial China - like a parallel history. It's interesting to think... what could have been. So far I'm finding it interesting to read about the rising of a peoples revolution... but most of all the ideas behind a women's country and the secrets of the jin-shei.

Because I love it so much, here's an extract:
"If you ask a bird to give up hope of the sky so that another might feel the wind on its wings; if you ask a man to give up his sight so that another might see; if you ask a peach blossom not to bloom so that its fellow branch might greet the bee and receive the blessings that allow it to turn, in the Gods' own time, into the peach - all of these things might seem hard to do, but if you ask in the name of something that is bigger than they or you or I, then it can be done, anything can be done. If you ask me in the name of the vow that binds us, I will give you my space in the sky, my share of the light; I will let you be the blossom that bears the peach. I will climb the mountain and find the Gods that wait for me there and I will make that place the one where I was meant to b ein this life and on this earth before Cahan calls me home. And I will learn to understand the blessings that the Gods chose to bestow upon me."

Isn't it terrifying... and beautiful at the same time that such a bond could exist? *o*

Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
A memoir. I think joey168 was a little freaked by it when she read the blurb... =P ... It's been reknowned for being a rather disturbing memoir. I think it'll be a insightful read. I heard about this book from someone somewhere before. So I was drawn to buy it. I think a movie based on this book will be coming soon... starring Joseph Fiennes, Alec Baldwin and Gwyneth Paltrow.

On Beauty by Zadie Smith
Not sure what to expect on this book... but I know that the book is about a pair of feuding families. From the reviews its recieved, I am expecting it to be an amusing read.

Once I finish I will probably write a review later for each book.

BORDERS should LOVE ME!

If I think it worthy - I will plonk it into my to-read list. Personally, I think it'll be interesting to see what everyone reads or loves to read... or what book they think is suitable for me XD;;;
