Spending $30 on a book. I regret not. :D

Mao's Last Dancer
Squee~! I bought Moa's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin on Friday - finished it on Saturday. ^^; I love biographies. I had my eye on this book ever since 2004 - I read 60+ pages in the bookstore. After that I wanted to buy it.
This book was kinda like a Chinese version of Angela's Ashesa or T'is by Frank McCourt. This biagraphy is about the life of Li Cunxin, a peasant boy from Qingdao chosen for Madame Mao's Beijing Dance Academy. I ended up learning a lot more about the hardships of poverty in China, living conditions, politics/communism; Mao's little red book and what happened after the death of Mao and the training Li Cunxin went through for ballet. I was close to crying (several times throughout the book), especially when Li Cunxin described the separation from his family and his homesickness. What I loved most was the inclusion of stories/fables that inspired Li Cunxin. It's an amazing book.
I'm going to persaude my entire family (excluding dad) to read it >D

Memoirs of a Geisha
My mum bought this book for Jennifer - finally we have the book at home. I'm so glad we found the book with the 'original' cover and not the 'movie' cover. Much nicer. *strokes book*
