Technology at its best!

Somebody recently said
At any given time, the technology of that time is always at its best.
But by Descartes' philosophy (and this thought is mine, not RD's), there is always something better than the best...which manifests in future.
Now, for some ensuing questions...
- What is it that we are looking for, that drives us to do better? IMHO, we are all trying to figure out the truth, some of which is universal and there are others that are personal to us. Technology is one of the many forms in which this search materializes.
- How do we take that change? Now, adaptability to changing technology is an entirely different ballgame. E.g., I find it difficult to keep up with the changing computer technology, without feeling like a geek. I find that this phenomenon is not limited to technological advances. The way different peoples across the world think depends largely on their past culture. While it is good (may be necessary, even?) to preserve things for posterity, due credit should be given to positive changes that have been made in our lifetimes.
