What and where do I want to be when I grow up?
I may take a position on the Quality Assurance team at work. It would be the last lateral move I could make with this company, and could put my in a good place to get a supervisory position

You're going to change careers at least 9 times in your life. You don't have to go to school to get a "worthwhile" career that's not "below" you. Sometimes they just fall into your lap. And there's nothing saying you can't take night courses until you decide what you really feel passionate about in your life.
Your post struck a chord with me. "A flat," actually- it's my favorite.

Here I am in Accounting. I can either wait until this, this, and this happens to go back to school, or I can go ahead and progress with this company for right now.
Or... I can explore this field, do the best I can with no formal education in the field, build up my resume for "someday" and enjoy the ride.
I'm enjoying the ride :)
And plus it's an excuse to buy new clothes- you should see this skirt I'm wearing! WHEE!
