Kids and getting old...

My 38th birthday was yesterday. Now frankly... the whole "birthday" business jumps the shark around 37 or so. I'm now officially in my "late 30's", what's there to get excited about? It's not like I'm depressed about it or anything, I just wasn't feeling the whole thing. Dave got me flowers and that was nice and all... but I got my one present (a new phone) early, so I was over the excitement there. Dave had to miss dinner because of a conference call, and I had to work all day, so I was pretty blah.

This is where having a 3 year old is AWESOME!!! Because Derek was so excited that it was my birthday. He was excited about my flowers in the morning. After school, we went to Porto's together for dinner and "cupcakes" (he had a flourless chocolate cake, I had a wedge of oreo cheesecake). He was so bouncy and silly, it was awesome. He had wanted me to take him to get myself a balloon, but we ended up calling that due to his aversion to non-home potties. But then still, all night he kept calling me "The Birthday Girl"... as in "I want to give you a hug Birthday Girl!" and "I want you to do my bath tonight, Birthday Girl!" It was so silly, but it seriously made the entire birthday thing 1000x more fun.

And then he proceeded to not fall asleep until 10:30 because he was on a mad sugar high from the cake. I swear to god this morning he had a sugar hangover. He wandered out of his bedroom and then flopped face down in the middle of the living room floor in his PJs whining and moaning. Haa haaa... just wait till college kiddo.
