Last Saturday Jon took me out on our "special date," my main Christmas present. I had no idea where he was taking me, and because I am so directionally-challenged I didn't figure out we were going to Nashville until we got to Elkton. :)
He took me to Jackson's in Hillsboro Village, where we had a nice meal--chicken braised in white wine, with garlic mashed potatoes. It was great. Then, of course, I had to go to Pangaea, my most favorite store in all the world. I got a pretty dress--black with flowers on it, spaghetti straps, kind of flapper looking--a mauvey tote bag that says "tout est bien qui finit bien" ("all's well that ends well"), and some little vintagey barrettes and some jewelry. Then, Jon and I stopped at Fido's for a white chocolate mocha... I believe they call it a 'white poodle'... After that, Jon took me downtown to the performing arts center. I didn't realize it until we got in there that he was taking me to see "The Nutcracker."
"The Nutcracker" was fabulous. I had never seen anything so beautiful. The costumes were great, the choreography was lovely, the music familiar yet brilliant. I believe Tchaichovsky (sp?) composed the music... Jon and I couldn't help but notice the endowment of some of the men in their tights...
Afterwards we went to Borders and looked a books until closing. I discovered a new folk artist, well, she's really from the early eighties, but she's new to me. I believe her name is Karen Wolf? but I wasn't able to get a CD because Jon and I got in a fight about Al Franken. Anyway, up until that point, however, Jon and I had the most wonderful evening. I couldn't have dreamed up a better Christmas present.
