Reflections on being back

So I am spending a long weekend at Wesleyan for what may be my last visit up here (every time I come up here it feels less and less familiar, resulting in this weird auto-response of attempting to make the setting familiar).

The train ride here was fairly uneventful. I decided that I needed to take up both seats (and quite honestly, I walked down to the second to last car so I wouldn't have to share with anyone). Now, I've been in buildings that have been chilly before, but never in a vehicle that was nearly hypothermia inducing. I sat curled up in a little ball next to the window of the car for nearly all 6 hours attempting to keep my teeth from chattering.

I was greeted by Jo at the train station. We had a lovely chat about her rigorous schedule (the girl is fucking crazy sometimes - I mean really, do you need to take 4 classes, TA 1 class, take Orchestra, AND write a senior thesis? I think not.) When we got back to campus I saw her very fun house (she's at 168 Cross) - fun little kitchen, pretty sizable rooms, nice common living space.

After getting semi-settled in the house, I walked with Jo down to the Admissions office (she's interviewing for a position as a senior interviewer with the Admiss office). While interviewing, I stop by WesWell to see Lisa Curry (remember a million posts back about meeting someone at a gay bar who knew someone who worked at Wes? this is the woman this gentleman knows.)

Lisa is actually from the Dells - so gossiped a little about the area, talk about why I'm not there anymore, talked about live in DC and how much I'm really enjoying myself. She also gave me the campus update to let me know what is going on here (my old ResLife boss moved to another school - as did half of the department. I talked to her to get the faculty side of the student complaints about the new campus facilities, etc.

I also forgot about how Lisa is in a position that I could see myself doing (helping coordinate student health programming on a college campus) and she got there with a start in our best friend Retail. It felt good to be reminded that although there are times when I feel like my time at Gap is a waste, a lot of people learn a lot of important things from jobs in retail.

After a good long chat, we parted ways as she had a meeting and I had a dinner to prep. On my way out, however, she was insistent that I stock up on safer sex supplies and she said "I consider it alum relations"

Upon returning the the house, we indulged in a bit of fun television viewing, and then started to get dinner underway. Many fun people came over to enjoy chicken tacos (if you are ever expecting a lot of people for dinner - it's an easy fix.)

Dinner was a delight and a hit - I was in the delightful company Peter, Aaron, Marianna, Alissa, Joanna, Jordana, and Lauren. It is so nice to be sitting around the living room, drinking some wine, and having dinner with the people you love :).

Last night post-dinner I headed to the new Usdan Campus Center. There was some sort of reception for Class of '08 re: Welcome to Senior year, blah blah blah. I went and was greeted by none other than the class dean of '08. This women sucked a bunch when I was here (remember the incident where I went to the dean about not having enough time in my day and she said "well, have you made a schedule").

The best part of the evening had to be that she greeted me as if I had never left. If you're going to say "Hello, nice to see you, did you have a good summer?" - you should be genuine. Dean Mike, on the other hand, remembered that I am not longer here and we had a good chat about life, about Wes, etc.

I got to see lots of friends and acquaintances at the event - and then headed back to Jo's to crash for the evening.

This morning was uneventful - had a later lunch with the delightful Megan and Jo, ran int Ruby-Beth and Tom.

Moral of the story - I love seeing people I like.

Now: mall, then cakes, then Mikey, then gay party maybe? then bed.

If you're at Wes and haven't seen me - find me please!
