After talking to the detective and cops, we were encouraged to become trained in firearms. That is something both Steve and I already have an interest in anyways. It's an expensive hobby but at this point, we both feel it's a necessary hobby. If we had had a gun in a locked safe the other night, we had plenty of time before he got in to get the key, unlock the gun and load it to shoot when he entered.
My fear has always been that if you shoot and kill someone in your house, even if it is a break in and they are armed, it's still possible that you can go to jail. But all the authorities we've spoken with were all that is absolutely not so. If someone enters your home unlawfully and is armed, you shoot to kill.
With Ben in the house, of course, we can't have an arsenal under the coffee table but I think we should be armed.
I would not put it past Will to get into prison, get himself into a white supremacist gang and run into someone on the outside who he can trade favors for and put a hit out on us. That's a stretch but honestly, when Will has nothing to lose, he turns to sick blackness. A taser isn't going to stop a cold blooded man out to murder for the sport.
Anyone that would say that us being trained gun owners is unnecessary -- would piss me off to say the least.
