STORYLINE: Happy Happy!
Characters: Your Narrator, EBEN, PERRY, MUSETTE, COCOA, VAL, R and S, and STAR

Well, my birthday was February 8th, which fell on a Thursday this year. My mother took me out to a wonderful dinner at Claim Jumper, a big steakhouse chain here where I feasted on filet mignon cooked perfectly. On Saturday, I asked my friends to join me at a nice Chinese restaurant for lunch, and many of them were able to make it. Afterward, many in the group headed to PERRY'S place to play some board games and enjoy a cake lovingly baked by VAL. (You wouldn't have thought my birthday would go well, considering I got only 3 1/2 hours of sleep thanks to ZEKE's roommate -- I had foolishly agreed to spend the night there prior to my big party -- but I was able to get home early, take a nap and recuperate.)

Besides Val and Perry, COCOA attended with a friend of hers who may or may not be a romantic interest, and my old friends R and S made an appearance. Four days before, on a whim I had called my old friend STAR, whom I haven't spoken to in years, and she answered and sounded interested in coming to my party.

COCOA and STAR were unable to head to the mini-Game Night afterward, but everyone else did, and MUSETTE joined us there later after she got off work. It was a great time. R and S had never been to a game night yet, so they got a chance to see how fun it is. The meal at lunch was excellent, and Val's cake was equally as delicious. I received a bevy of very nice presents, and got to spend several hours with good friends. The week after, Star took me out for a sushi lunch and we hung out for a whole day, which has made for a birthday week-and-a-half that has been excellent, and one of the most memorable to date. I highly recommend people throw themselves a birthday party on this scale each year on their birthday.

STORYLINE: THE LITTLE THINGS ...
Characters: Your Narrator, PERRY

PERRY got Punk'd.

He and I were at Best Buy, browsing and looking through various departments when he got a call on the phone. His former secretary from the fencing club was calling on the phone, sounding distraught and telling Perry that her long-lasting relationship had ended recently, and badly. A couple of minutes into her plaintive story, the apparent ex-boyfriend showed up. Perry was reluctant to even shake his hand, as he'd bought into the girlfriend's story so intently -- which involved allegations of infidelity. Perry told the boyfriend who he was talking to, then wandered a ways off to get some privacy.

Meanwhile, the apparent ex-boyfriend whispered to me that he and his girlfriend, who were still VERY much dating, were pulling an elaborate hoax on Perry. On the phone, the girl told Perry that she called because she just wanted someone to talk to during this difficult time, and eventually he asked where she was. She responded that she was in the same store as he was. Perry looked up to see her walking down towards where I and her "ex" were standing, and the look on Perry's face then, as when he first saw the "ex", was priceless. The couple couldn't keep up the joke any longer, and clued their victim on the hoax ... but it was definitely memorable. I don't think I've ever seen someone turn that red ...

STORYLINE: GAMES PEOPLE PLAY
Characters: Your Narrator, PERRY, EBEN, MUSETTE, JAZMIN, DINA.

Game Night was small this month, but stil enjoyable. There was a possibility of a large number of people coming, and because of that, Game Night was held at PERRY's place instead of with JAZMIN as it normally is. Jazmín flew back from Sacramento the day before this Game Night. Eben was also in attendance, but many of our regulars were unable to attend, and NONE of the extra, unexpected people showed.

MUSETTE was unable to arrive until 8 pm due to work, and her friend DINA (who came two months ago as well) arrived shortly thereafter. But nevertheless, we still had an enjoyable time, with a lot of conversation, some pizza, and a little game playing. I spent the night and ended up making a Game Weekend out of it for the second time; friends and fun are always a nice way to spend an entire weekend.

Among the highlights of the evening: A game of A Thousand Blank White Cards that came close to never ending. Follow the link to find out about a GREAT game that has become a staple of our Game Night. One of the only rules is that the game ends when any player has no cards in hand and cannot play any cards. Thanks to EBEN's creation of a card that required the discarded cards to be shuffled back into the draw deck repeatedly, there soon became only one card in the entire deck that could end the game, and it was a race to find it and get it. Hilarity ensued during this three-hour-long game.

Ah, good times.

Yes, good food, good fun, and good company. Three ingredients that any person's life should not be without. Our daily existence is sometimes like a recipe: two cups of mundane tasks are sweetened with three tablespoons of joy, and every once in a while a cup of sorrow is added that sours the entire concoction. But while many people see life as --

BOGGER: Just shut up you dead bitch, none of your stupid epilogue speeches make any sense!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"I mean ... PERRY having friends is not bad. On the other hand, we'd prefer his friends were not sociopathic. But it's a start."
