Hey guys :)
Well, as I can't post icons here until April 2nd (for those of you who doesn't know what happened, check my previous post) I decided to make a colouring tutorial. Hope you guys like it^^
Other Examples:
Kris Stewart Nylon Shoot Icon Coloring
Program used: Photoshop CS3
Level: Easy
Steps: 6
Uses: Selective Coloring, Curves, Color Balance & Channel Mixer
Translatable? No, includes Selective Coloring as I said before
PSD? Yes! :D
1. First of all, crop your image and sharpen it according to its needs. And also, just so you know, this coloring works better with bright images, so if you’re using a dark image I suggest you to do a screen layer and play with the opacity depending on how dark is your image.
2. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color:
> Method: Relative
• Reds:
Cyan: +100
Magenta: + 5
Yellow: +100
Black: 0
• Yellows:
Cyan: +91
Magenta: +94
Yellow: -100
Black: 0
• Cyans:
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +1
Yellow: -2
Black: 0
• Blues:
Cyan: +95
Magenta: -59
Yellow: +23
Black: 0
• Neutrals:
Cyan: +37
Magenta: -12
Yellow: -7
Black: 0
• Blacks:
Cyan: 0
Magenta: +6
Yellow: 0
Black: +9
This layer will bring up the reds and also give the picture a blueish tone.
3. Go to Layer > Adjustment Layers > Curves:
> Channel: RGB
• First Point:
Output: 55
Input: 63
• Second Point:
Output: 181
Input: 171
> Channel: Red
• First Point:
Output: 57
Input: 39
• Second Point:
Output: 169
Input: 172
> Channel: Blue
• First Point:
Output: 56
Input: 48
• Second Point:
Output: 146
Input: 161
This layer will turn the picture I little bit brighter.
4. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance:
• Midtones: -7, -26, -33
• Shadows: +22, 0, 0
Now the picture looks a bit darker again and more saturated.
5. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Channel Mixer:
• Red:
Red: +96
Green: +21
Blue: -21
• Blue:
Red: -9
Green: -7
Blue: +98
Now the picture’s got more of a yellowish/greenish tone, which looks great in my opinion :)
6. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color:
• Reds:
Cyan: -10
Magenta: 0
Yellow: +11
Black: 0
• Yellows:
Cyan: 0
Magenta: +44
Yellow: -18
Black: 0
• Cyans:
Cyan: +77
Magenta: 0
Yellow: 0
Black: 0
• Neutrals:
Cyan: +16
Magenta: -10
Yellow: 0
Black: 0
This brings up the reds and blues a little bit more.
And you’re done! You may vary some of these settings, every image is unique :)
Please comment guys, it is so nice to see what people think about what you do :D
I was kind of sleepy when I made this tutorial so please tell me if there’s anything wrong (Y)
And feel free to ask me if you have any doubts, I don’t bite ;P
