"... I have to say," Mabel said, leaning sideways to whisper to Alluka, "this is way less weird than the last time somebody tried to make me their Queen."

That had involved being tied to the ground. And a leaf-blower.

Alluka leaned over and giggled. "Do, do you think we're really royalty now?"

"I think they think we are," Mabel laughed, shrugging her shoulders and straightening the crown on her head. "And that's nine tenths of the law, or... something like that. Or maybe that's democracy. Or possession?"

Mabel had been possessed enough to know that she didn't care for it, anyway.

"I guess there's nothing to be done but to be queens. At least for a little while."

She'd miss Dipper if they stayed here too long.

"Only for a little while?" she asked, looking askance at Mabel. "But once you're royalty, you're royalty until forever."

Obviously. Even SHE knew that.

"Well, yeah," Mabel replied, a little dubiously. "But I'd kind of miss the island sometimes, wouldn't you?"

And her family, and all, but she knew better by now than to talk so candidly about missing them with Alluka.

"Well, I...,"

Would she miss the island?

Alluka didn't really know.

"We could always go and visit as Queens, right?"

"Maybe," Mabel mused. "I mean, the last time someone wanted to make me queen, I was expected to go live in the forest and marry about a million gnomes."

Which... no.

"But I guess so long as we don't have to marry the duckies, we're still free, independent women! Right?"

That... that was going a bit over her head, honestly.

She blinked.

"Can we even get married as queens?" she asked doubtfully. "Don't you have to be a princess to marry a prince to become a queen? We skipped a few steps."

"Huh. You know, you're right? But I guess since we aren't married, and we are the queens, if we do want to get married... who's going to stop us?"

Was it somebody's job to make sure they followed the rules?

Alluka giggled.

"I'll stop you if your marry-person is mean," she announced. "I'll command you not to get married then."

"And I'll do the same thing for you," Mabel decided. "We're both way too regal to marry meanies!"

They had one another's backs. That was important, in queens!
