I'm not a particular fan of hiking, especially not the kind of hiking my friend likes to do (meaning the dangerous rock scaling down sheer cliffs above the ocean kind of hiking), but it was his birthday today, and how could I say no to that? Well, two terrifying not-actually-trails-but-grooves-dug-out-by-water hikes later we were heading out of Big Sur and towards home. We were sweaty, I was exhausted, and it was starting to rain.
We decided to stop in Cambria for coffee, and in a moment of spontaneity we decided to visit a rather foul smelling used bookstore.
And there they were! An entire crate with a little cardboard-with-marker sign that said FREE.
Harlequin Romance Novels.
An entire crate.
For free.
I didn't take all of them, of course. That would be selfish, but I did manage to snag one entitled "The Seductive Sheik", which I am already making plans to adapt into a Kirk/Spock piece. Because I've read a few chapters and it was meant to be.
So now I will have something of substance to contribute to the new community I'm co-founder of, the
uss_harlequin ! Everyone should drop by. It's the cheesiest place in the world.
