“What?” Troy snaps more viciously than he intends.
Ryan stares at the floor, both unwilling and unable to meet the other boy’s gaze. “We can just forget it ever happened, if you think that would be best,” he says quietly.
Troy looks at him with tortured eyes but says nothing.
“This isn't worth losing our friendship over, Troy. I think you…” Ryan’s voice cracks. “I think you should go back to your girlfriend.” He feels nauseated as he lies, “It was only a kiss.”
Troy puts his head in his hands. “The trouble is,” he says miserably, “it wasn’t.”
