Politics

Okay, so usually, the person I want to sell to the mob in that icon is Pete, but today it's my father. We didn't agree on politics for a long time, but during the course of my business education (strangely enough), somewhere along the way I became fiscally conservative, anti-union, and several other things usually reserved for the designation of ( Read more... )

It really, really burns my ass when people get into office and then they're like, "Yay! I can spend it because it's not my money! Limos for everyone!". One of our Assembly gals up here somehow managed to "expense" $40K of crap, and people still elected her again. Hello? Where I'm from, that's called stealing.
I'm just not okay with big government and big taxes, I have to say. I'm looking for as little as possible from the government. While I won't say that I don't use any of their services (because, you know, I drive on roads and stuff), I don't think that the government is the best answer for these things, nor the most efficient way to handle them. I think that no one can compete when the government is involved, and its competition that makes things more efficient.
I'm also in favor of a flat tax of whatever percent. I don't think that the percentage should change with your income. I'm sure there are reasons that that won't work, but until you stop punishing people for achieving, you're not going to get a lot of achievers.

It's not an ethical thing, it's that my general feeling is this...if the government didn't get you there, the government shouldn't have to pay for it. The government wasn't around when I got pregnant, and thus it's not the government's concern whether or not I get an abortion or how I pay for it. However, when state-funded schools decide to teach abstinence only, then it might be their problem that I got pregnant. But only maybe. I haven't really explored that line of thinking. But I'm also of a mind that you're kind of responsible for finding out what happens if you have sex, if no one taught you, and there's the internet.
I do get what you're saying, though, and it's a good point. Though, honestly, I think prison should suck a whole lot more than it does.

A couple. Seems like they're just...waiting, for the time to be up. Plus I've lived in a prison town my whole life, with the opportunity to check it out a few times (not from the inside). There seems to be a lot of waiting. I'm sure that prison is different in different parts of the country, though.

That is most certainly true, the rehabilitation part. The recidivism (sp?) rate is appalling.
