I just ran into the most beautiful soul last night. She is as dear to me as my spinal cord. Not the best analogy. Hrm. I can't think of anything that sounds nice and gets my point across. She knows me about as well as my subconscious knows me, which is better than I know me, and I just have to say that I'm going to miss that girl. Point being, she is the 3rd amazing woman in Denton who wants to start a community garden. I mean that she has the exact same plan as the 1st in that she wants to start it on the other side of the tracks, and teach sustainable gardening to children of low-income families so that they don't have to worry about food.
She said things to me that made me cry. It was like she restrung the guitar that I didn't know was missing a string because I hadn't even picked it up out of the corner for months, and she gave it to me and said, "Play." Then the sound of the universe came from the belly of the beast, echoing off the walls of cities, and I saw. It all made sense all of a sudden. But she's right. You should NEVER allow yourself to be pushed away because you don't like something that's happening. When you are being invaded, STAND YOUR GROUND. Tend to your community, because it's yours. You may want to live on a lush, tropical island in the middle of the Carribbean, but you live where you live, so make it everything you want it to be. Figure out what you believe in, and it shouldn't even take a fight to get it.
And so the best of them live. It doesn't take a lot. It's quite simple. Do what feels right. Don't run. Don't hide. Never give up. NEVER give up. Don't allow your life to be struck down by the hands of others. Don't let your borders crumble when they are attacked. You have the power and the resources to keep building, to incorporate, and to at the same time be tolerant and accepting. When a path lights up, take it. But when it's time to return, return. Keep listening to that voice that tells you where to go, and everything will fall in your lap. YES. There will be hard times. That is inevitable. YES. You will think that the world is against you, and your brothers will die, and your grandfathers will die, and your electricity might go off, and your mothers will suffer, and everything will be better than alright. Everything's going to be alright. Life is beautiful. I don't know where it goes from there, but I have some ideas, and you have some ideas, and the thing to remember is where you are now. And use where you are now to its fullest, because you have more to offer where you are than it has to offer you. Stop raping your city and start giving back to it. Denton has NOTHING to offer anyone, but the people living in Denton have such absolutely AMAZING gifts to give. So do it. I expect to see some good changes. So now I push the snowball down the mountain.
