After spending a refreshing weekend at a yoga retreat (that I still need to blog about), I realized that one of the things that contributed to that good feeling was what we were eating. This post really hits home for me. I agree with so many of the points. I wouldn't have too much trouble giving up MOST meat, just because i don't particularly care for it. It's very rare that I actually enjoy poultry, and I don't like porkchops, or ham, and ground beef the texture makes me ill. I love seafood (or rather, I love shellfish, and sushi, cooked fish doesn't do it for me usually) and good steak, but these are too expensive for me to eat on a regular basis anyway.

Sadly, though, my favorite meat is the processed stuff that's the worst for you: pepperoni, salami, summer sausage.. But again, these are fairly rare in my diet.

Since coming to Baltimore, the two coworkers I've actually spent (a very small amount of) time with outside of work are both "raw vegans", which I didn't even know existed until meeting them. So we've gone to those type of restaurants ... and while a lot of the food is really good (though the dehydrated pizza crust was ... not that good) it's just not something I could do all the time. I like cheese. And lots of things are just -better- cooked, even if they do lose some of the nutrients. Plus, I do eat a lot of raw carrots, or apples and bananas.

You do have one thing going for you, though. You can cook. I am an awful cook, so i make a lot of frozen dinners and canned stuff. I tried out a lot of recipes last summer while Ryan was in Iowa, but the big problem I came across is that i'm all by myself, and most recipes serve so many people. Even halving the recipes I had a lot of leftovers, and my biggest thing is that I like variety. I can eat something for dinner and then lunch the next day, but any more than that and I'm completely sick of it.

Anyway, I may follow your lead on this one and try your diet (which honestly won't be much of a change from what i'm doing already) at least while I'm here in Baltimore. Back in Texas, it will be much more difficult (especially since Ryan is pickier than a 3 year old).

If you have any reasonably easy recipes you're willing to share, I'd appreciate it! I have the same preferences as you regarding quick dishes and one-dish meals, as long as they can be frozen and reheated later so I don't get sick of them...
