First off you're probably going to think...2 posts in the span of a week?!? Oh no! This is my again feeble attempt to try to maybe be more than a lurker and more interactive with folks, so there. =P
Anyways, back to the topic at hand, non-drivers, I was rear-ended today on my way to work, by a woman who was "distracted" while driving. She was going 45-50 miles per hour, I was stopped at a red light. Surprisingly, I wasn't hurt, I'm a little sore and my muscles are a bit stiff, but the paramedics and the nurse's line at the hospital, both said I was OK, but would be sore for a few days, tomorrow being worse than today and to take some Tylenol.
In the ensuing police/fireman/paramedic questioning that follows an accident, the lady that hit me, said she was distracted by her cellphone and not watching the road when she hit me, the lady police officer asked her if she was putting on makeup while she was driving since it was smeared across the side of her face. The FedEx driver that was behind her said she never once hit her brakes before the impact. She hit me hard enough to push me 8 feet forward into the back of the car in front of me, somehow in all of this, neither my car nor the one I hit was damaged. She was driving an early 90's Toyota tank, so not even a scratch on hers at that speed too. The police cited her for wreckless driving and let us all go after the paramedics pronounced me concussion and injury free.
All I can really say out of all of this, is I thankfully walked away from a potentially deadly situation relatively unscathed. However, as of today, I'm going to make a few changes to my driving habits, first and foremost is no talking on the phone while driving, period. If it was indeed her talking on the phone that caused all of this ruckus than I got lucky and I'm not going to take chances in the future. So if you happen to call me and I don't answer, leave me a voicemail. =) And please, let's all try to be more responsible and not do stupid stuff while on the road.
