Title: Bookends Pairing: Harrry/Draco Rating: PG13 Summary: The dragon is not dormant. He's reciting Shakespeare and waiting for the sea nymphs. The Boy Who Lived is guarding the bathroom door.
I guess I wrote a rant, sorry lolololonewconditionsJuly 20 2011, 14:00:57 UTC
A lot, a lot of people really hate on Draco/Harry because it's supposedly based on the idea that they're enemies who hate each other and so obviously they're in love. Obviously.
Well, yeah, maybe in the first and second year, but as the story progresses the characters develop and deepen, making any possible relationships potentially really complicated, not just Draco/Harry. And yeah, it is a rather unrealistic pair, because if all that's to the story is a happy couple, then the writer has completely missed the main point of both characters. Draco is a whiny lordling boy and Harry is an unlikely hero child, and any relationship that they develop, if any at all, is going to be highly dysfunctional and severely complicated due to their differences in character but also due to their previous loyalties.
If Draco is anything like I imagine him, he would feel extremely guilty about everything that he put Harry through, and he would blame is on himself. In my opinion Draco/Harry is a ticking time bomb of a relationship because in the end they are two vastly different people with different morals, and as they're both strong-willed, lack the traits to balance each other out.
It's kind of one of those post-war guilt pairings at this point, in my opinion. I've shipped it since I was young, and it was completely different then, but now the story's complete it's changed quite a bit. I don't think that anything between them could last very long, and whatever does happen between them will be based from Harry's desire to make Draco right again and Draco's desire to repent for the choices he's made regarding Lord Voldemort. Ultimately they would not last to have pretty little babies (or whatever fluff fictions are about) because one, that is ridiculous, and two, they would tire of each other as their war trauma subsides. But, they would help each other through it, which is probably the most beautiful thing about this pairing.
.... Oh god, I just realized how much I wrote. Sorry about pulling the ship rant out in your blog. xD
